The Valley Sports Telegram volleyball coverage area had some pretty entertaining league showdowns this past week: the El Camino Real Royals went into the Jungle of Granada Hills and walked away with a five set victory on Monday and then, two days after the Highlanders were beaten at home, Granada went on the road and swept the Toreadors of Taft in three sets. ECR is the new top team with victories over No. 2 Granada Hills and No. 8 Cleveland. No. 3 Taft had a win against No. 4 Chatsworth - even after their second West Valley League contest versus Birmingham Community Charter was postponed due the lack of officials in the San Fernando Valley area.

No. 1 El Camino Real (8-6, 2-0 West Valley League): The Royals host their Woodland Hills rival in Taft on Tuesday and then will be on the road at Birmingham Charter on Thursday afternoon and finish their week at the CV tournament on Friday and Saturday.

No. 2 Granada Hills (12-6, 1-1 West Valley League): Have two home games this week with Birmingham Charter on Tuesday and Chatsworth on Thursday.

No. 3 Taft (19-4, 1-1 West Valley League): Will be traveling to face El Camino Real on Tuesday and host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday afternoon.

No. 4 Chatsworth (19-11, 0-1 West Valley League): Will be on the road for two West Valley League matches in Cleveland and Granada Hills Highlanders.

No. 5 Polytechnic (11-1, 4-0 East Valley League): Had a lightly competitive schedule with clean sweeps of Chavez and Arleta, both coming away from the Cage this past week. Poly will host Grant on Thursday at 4.

No. 6 Verdugo Hills (16-5, 3-1 East Valley League): As for the Dons, it was a fun week with the current squad taking on the alumni last week - resulting in a hard fought sweep on Tuesday. Then the Dons welcomed senior Sofia Reinhart, daughter of legendary coach Will to the Barn on Wednesday. Unfortunately for Sofia, the Dons got their 2nd sweep of the week against the VAAS Vipers and then they swept the Eagles of Cesar Chavez on the road. This week is a very busy week for the Dons as they host Monroe on Monday, travel to Arleta on Thursday, then back home against Carson on Friday and will finish the week at the MACES tournament this Saturday.

No. 7 Birmingham (8-5, 1-0 West Valley League): Beat Cleveland this past week, but the Patriots will have a much tougher week ahead as they face two top ranked teams. They travel to Granada Hills on Tuesday and will return home to face El Camino Real on Thursday.

No. 8 Cleveland (10-11, 0-2 West Valley League): Didn’t have a great week with 3 straight losses to Birmingham, El Camino Real and Crescenta Valley. But this week, the Cavaliers host Chatsworth on Tuesday and travel to the Taft Toreadors for a date on Thursday afternoon.

No. 9 Sylmar (10-10, 5-0 Valley Mission League): Took down rival San Fernando Tigers in three sets and defeated Reseda Regents in four sets, with both games on the road. As for this week, Sylmar will face Crescenta Valley at home in a non-league showdown against a Southern Section program on Monday and will return to Valley Mission League action at Canoga Park on Wednesday.

No. 10 Kennedy (11-11, 4-1 Valley Mission League): Only had Canoga Park this past week and it was a sweep in favor of JFK. They will be on the road on Monday against Reseda and return home Wednesday vs. Van Nuys.
