The Valley Sports Telegram volleyball coverage area had some pretty entertaining matches: The Royals of El Camino Real, who went 7-2 overall this past week with league victories against Taft and Birmingham. The Royals traveled to La Crescenta over the weekend and finished tied for 5th in the 32nd annual Falcons Classic - behind the likes of eventual tournament champion Chaminade, runner up South Pasadena, Village Christian and FSHA. The Royals’ Grace Hazelton was named to the All-Falcons Tournament team. Verdugo Hills, ranked 6th overall, found success as well by taking home the gold at MACES tournament by beating Glendale 25-18. (The list was written and scheduled to be published before the matches on Tuesday)

No. 1 El Camino Real (15-8, 4-0 West Valley League): The Royals are back to continue their quest of earning a league title, with a visit to Chatsworth Tuesday and home against Granada Hills on Thursday afternoon.

No. 2 Granada Hills (14-6, 3-1 West Valley League): Went 2-0 this past week with sweep of Birmingham and Chatsworth and this week are on the road for two league contests against Cleveland and El Camino Real.

No. 3 Taft (20-5, 2-2 West Valley League): Fell in five sets to El Camino Real on the road, but got a sweep of Cleveland at home this past week. Taft will next be on the road at Birmingham Tuesday and return home against Chatsworth on Thursday afternoon.

No. 4 Chatsworth (20-12, 1-2 West Valley League): Got its first league win against Cleveland on the road, but were swept by Granada Hills this past week. Chatsworth will be facing the Woodland Hills schools, hosting El Camino Real Tuesday and traveling to Taft on Thursday afternoon.

No. 5 Polytechnic (13-4, 5-0 East Valley League): It's that time of the season, when you already have a victory against your rival (Verdugo Hills). But are now heading to enemy territory at the Barn Tuesday looking to sweep the Dons for the first time since the 2010 season. The Parrots finish their week with their rival and reigning City D3 champion North Hollywood on Thursday.

No. 6 Verdugo Hills (24-5, 5-1 East Valley League): Had a very big week going 8-0 overall, but have a tall task by hosting No 5 Polytechnic Tuesday, home against Canoga Park on Wednesday, with visits to Grant on Thursday and San Fernando on Friday to conclude the week.

No. 7 Birmingham (8-7, 1-2 West Valley League): The Patriots are home versus Taft Tuesday and will then be on the road for a rare Friday league match at Cleveland, who the Patriots have already beaten twice this season.

No. 8 Cleveland (11-19, 0-4 West Valley League): Lost 8 of 9 matches with their only win coming to the Orange Vista Coyotes 27-25, 25-23 on Saturday morning at South Pasadena Middle School as part of pool play at the CV tournament. Cleveland is home for two league games beginning with Granada Hills Tuesday and Birmingham on Friday afternoon.

No. 9 Sylmar (11-11, 7-0 Valley Mission League): Went 1-1 this past week by being swept against the Crescenta Valley Falcons at home, but got on track by taking a win against Canoga Park. The Spartans travel to Panorama on Wednesday, before hosting the Wolves of Van Nuys on Friday. Senior hitter Temple Vasquez finished with 15 kills, to go along with 14 digs and six service aces in the first matchup against Van Nuys back on August 31st.

No. 10 Kennedy (12-11, 5-1 Valley Mission League): Only had one league contest against Reseda, which the Cougars won 3-0. Their second game against Van Nuys was postponed to October 18th due to a lack of officials in the San Fernando area. The Cougars travel to San Fernando on Wednesday, then return home to face the Pythons of Panorama on Friday afternoon.
