VST City Section Volleyball Top 10 (Seventh Edition)

No. 1 Granada Hills (18-6, 7-1 West Valley League): Battled it out last week against Taft, winning it in five sets at the Jungle. The Highlanders had a balanced scoring attack of Hannah Bernstein, Valeria Bellodas-Lazo and Alexis Cuan, who combined for 33 kills and setter Mason Kelley collected 38 assists. Next up for the Highlanders is a road contest vs. Chatsworth Tuesday and finish off their league slate at home vs. Cleveland on Thursday.

No. 2 El Camino Real (17-9, 6-1 West Valley League): Defeated Cleveland for the third time this year this past week. The Royals will be back home this week against Birmingham (Tuesday) and Chatsworth (Thursday).

No. 3 Taft (31-8, 4-3 West Valley League): Suffered another a loss to top ranked Granada Hills in five sets and finished the past week with second place finish at the Garden Grove Tournament against Visalia Central Valley Christian 2-1. The Toreadors are busy this week with Bell, Cleveland and close the week with Birmingham at home on Thursday and travel to Burroughs on Friday night.

No. 4 Chatsworth (24-16-1, 2-5 West Valley League): Split their two league matches with a five set loss to Birmingham and then came back to sweep Cleveland and finished their week at the 32nd annual Sylmar Classic by taking their pool with clean 2-set wins over VAAS, CCV, Wildwood, then split their final pool play match against Glendale. Chatsworth lost to Heritage Christian to open their Gold Division run at Sylmar. This week they jump back into West Valley League action with Granada Hills and close the week against a road match at El Camino Real on Thursday and return Friday vs. Birmingham.

No. 5 Verdugo Hills (28-5, 7-1 East Valley League): Had a well deserved week off, heading into the final stretch run of the season and look to continue their 14 match winning streak as they host Chavez, travel to Eagle Rock and close the week with their annual Dig Pink match against Arleta on Thursday and then will travel for a rare league match on Friday at North Hollywood.

No. 6 Polytechnic (18-6, 8-1 East Valley League): Won easily this past week with clean sweeps of Chavez and Monroe. The Parrots will look to continue their quest for a co East Valley League championship with the Dons of Verdugo Hills, when they host Arleta on Monday and travel to Grant on Thursday to close out the week.

No. 7 Birmingham (15-10, 3-4 West Valley League): Got their first win against Chatsworth since 2013 after a 5 setter last week, but were swept two days later by first place Granada Hills. The Patriots concluded their week at the Sylmar Tournament with two set pool play wins over University, Grant, Kennedy, Heritage Christian and then got one set Gold Division playoff win over Glendale, before falling to runner up Marshall in the semifinals. Next up, BH will travel to El Camino Real on Tuesday, Taft on Thursday and close at Chatsworth on Friday night.

No. 8 Cleveland (18-23, 0-8 West Valley League): Were swept in their two league matches this past week against El Camino Real and Chatsworth. But at the Sylmar Classic, the Cavaliers won their pool play matches versus Fairfax, Bravo, Highland and South East and then fell in the Gold Division playoff semifinals to eventual champion Venice. Cleveland hosts Taft Tuesday and finishes their week on the road vs. Granada Hills on Thursday.

No. 9 Sylmar (15-15-1, 9-2 Valley Mission League): Got sweeps of rivals Kennedy and San Fernando, before they hosted their annual tournament over the weekend. The Spartans went 2-1-1 in their pool play victories over North Hollywood and Lake Balboa College Prep earning them a spot in the Gold Division playoffs - but fell to Glendale 25-14 in the opening round of playoffs. Sylmar will try to secure their 20th straight league title, when they host Reseda on Monday. They will finish the week on the road in a non-league affair with Grant on Wednesday.

No. 10 Kennedy (14-16, 6-3 Valley Mission League): Lost 4 of 5 matches with their only win coming in a 27-26, 25-13 pool play match at the Sylmar Tournament over the weekend. The Cougars will battle with Canoga Park on the road on Monday, before hosting the Reseda Regents for their senior night on Wednesday afternoon.
