Faith Baptist Takes Down Lancaster Baptist, Notch Two Straight Wins in Two Days
Fresh off a Heritage League victory the day prior, the Faith Baptist Contenders played their first home game in nearly a month, as they hosted the Lancaster Baptist Eagles for another Heritage League showdown this past Friday night. The Contenders were looking to secure back-to-back victories for the first time since early December, and against a 2-2 Lancaster Baptist squad, were looking to make a statement early in the game. Faith Baptist put on an impressive showing on defense, which ultimately led them to a commanding 45-18 win.
The first quarter saw Faith Baptist reach a lead of 8-3, with their defense controlling all movement on Lancaster’s side. Once making it past halfcourt, it was difficult for Lancaster to find any semblance of ball movement, as constant double and even triple teams by Faith Baptist led to multiple turnovers. The second quarter saw Faith Baptist gain some ground offensively, as multiple open fastbreak opportunities led to an 11-0 scoring run over the course of just over four minutes. Lancaster Baptist in the entire first half mustered just two field goals, and just six points overall at halftime.
The second half of the game featured similar results on both sides of the court for both teams, as Faith Baptist continued to blow the game out of proportion, as they scored over 20 points in both halves. Defensively, the Contenders were able to keep things quiet for Lancaster Baptist from the field, as eight fouls from Faith Baptist were mostly the way the Eagles could crack the scoreboard. Faith Baptist, in dominating fashion, took this game by a final score of 45-18, notching their second straight victory in as many games and improving their record to 10-3.
For the Faith Baptist Contenders, they will continue league play as the Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals tonight, with tip-off scheduled for 5:00 pm in Canoga Park.
