Burbank shutouts Eagle Rock 5-0 as Maddison Kellogg pitches a complete game shutout

The Burbank Bulldogs improved their home record to 2-0, with a 5-0 win over the Eagle Rock Eagles on Thursday afternoon. Maddison Kellogg pitched a complete game shutout, as she struck out 12 batters, walking just 1 batter in 7 innings pitched.

On offense, the Bulldogs were led by Kayla Orozco’s 2-run homer in the 1st inning along with Delilah Alverado’s RBI Single in the 6th inning which gave the Bulldogs insurance. Belinda Lujano made the defensive play of the night in the 7th inning as she threw out the runner trying to score from 2nd base, recording the final out to seal the win. Kellogg and Orozco shared their thoughts on the Bulldogs win and their performances in the win over Eagle Rock, “I felt really good about myself and I also felt like I dominated on the hill today.” Kellogg said. When asked about Lujano’s outfield assist, she said, “Belinda is always there, she’s always had my back and always making great plays to help the team win.”

Orozco was asked about her opposite field home run which opened the scoring for Burbank, “I was a little shaky, then I saw the ball and I knew when I swung the bat that it was going over the fence.” Orozco also said that she was happy with her overall performance as she felt like she did everything she could to help the team win with her bat.

Bulldogs Head Coach Melissa Sanchez was happy with her team’s 5-0 win over the Eagles, “It was a fun game seeing all the girls put into this win, all the girls capitalized on a lot of situations such as bunting girls over, driving in runs and getting base hits as the whole lineup produced. Our defense was great, Maddy is just on fire right now, as it was a great team win.” When asked about Lujano’s outfield assist to end the game, she said, “The second the ball got hit and when I saw the third base coach waving her home, I got off my bucket and knew that she was going to be out before it even happened. Belinda is a stud and I have all the confidence in the world when the ball gets to her that she was going to make a play as we work a lot on this at practice and it was expected out of her.” The Bulldogs improve to 3-1 as they head back to the Hart Tournament on Saturday to play Vasquez High School. Chaminade would be the next matchup if they beat Vasquez. Their next home game will be on Wednesday February 22nd against Chaminade at McCambridge at 4:00 PM.
