Los Angeles Valley College's women's basketball team defeated Imperial Valley 74-44 in the first round of the CCCAA SoCal Regionals on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

The Monarchs did not have an impressive beginning but came together to dominate Imperial Valley for the remainder of the game. In the first quarter, the Monarchs missed shots and struggled defensively. At the end of the first quarter, Los Angeles Valley found themselves behind 16-15. They wouldn't trail again in the contest after that.

The Monarchs' defense picked up right before halftime and continued into the second half, allowing an average of four points in the second and third quarters. Imperial Valley gained some momentum in the fourth quarter, but it was too late to mount a comeback. The Monarchs finished the game with a comfortable 30-point victory.

Los Angeles Valley were led by sophomore guard #20, Dyani Del Castillo, who finished with 18 points. Imperial Valley was led by sophomore guard #14, Malena Ponchione, who finished with 16 points. "We are all one team. We support each other whether we are on or off the court. Let's keep it going; let's go!"

The Monarchs advance to the second round of the CCCAA SoCal Regionals. Valley College will travel to Moorpark on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 7:00 PM Pacific time.
