Burroughs defeats Arcadia 6-1 to claim first place alone in the Pacific League

After sweeping Dos Pobelos in a doubleheader on Saturday, the Burroughs Bears extended their winning streak to 8 games by beating Arcadia 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon, to claim sole possession of first place in the Pacific League. Burroughs Associate Head Coach Katie Taix said pregame that she has connections to 3 Arcadia players in Samantha Alamarez, Peyton Fox, and Sophia Herrera in which she coached them in the past from the side. As for Arcadia, Sophia Herrera drove in the team’s only run as Peyton Fox of Arcadia scored the teams only run for the Apaches. Herrera struck out 4 batters in 6 innings pitched in the loss for the Apaches.

The Bears also had a couple of stand out moments on the defensive side of the ball. Right fielder Eliza Torres and second baseman Skylar Vanole teamed up to earn outfield assists on a relay that robbed Tianna Smith of Arcadia of an inside the park home run in the top of the 3rd inning. Catcher Rachel Little then threw out Peyton Fox while attempting to steal 2nd base in the top of the 4th inning.
