Burroughs defeats Arcadia 6-1 to claim first place alone in the Pacific League
After sweeping Dos Pobelos in a doubleheader on Saturday, the Burroughs Bears extended their winning streak to 8 games by beating Arcadia 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon, to claim sole possession of first place in the Pacific League. Stevie Dabbadie pitched a complete game as she went 7 strong innings recording 9 strikeouts, 6 hits allowed, 0 walks, along with going 3 for 3 with the bat. Chloe Centeno had a productive day at the plate as she went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and drove in 2 runs. Phoebe Sprangler had a career day at the plate as she went 3/3 with 4 RBIs and got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning for the Bears with a 2 run triple.
Burroughs Associate Head Coach Katie Taix said pregame that she has connections to 3 Arcadia players in Samantha Alamarez, Peyton Fox, and Sophia Herrera in which she coached them in the past from the side. As for Arcadia, Sophia Herrera drove in the team’s only run as Peyton Fox of Arcadia scored the teams only run for the Apaches. Herrera struck out 4 batters in 6 innings pitched in the loss for the Apaches.
The Bears also had a couple of stand out moments on the defensive side of the ball. Right fielder Eliza Torres and second baseman Skylar Vanole teamed up to earn outfield assists on a relay that robbed Tianna Smith of Arcadia of an inside the park home run in the top of the 3rd inning. Catcher Rachel Little then threw out Peyton Fox while attempting to steal 2nd base in the top of the 4th inning.
Burroughs improves their record to 17-2 Overall and 6-0 in Pacific League play, while Arcadia drops to 15-4 Overall and 4-1 in Pacific League play. With the win, the Burroughs Bears are now the only undefeated team left in the Pacific League and the loss drops the Arcadia Apaches to 2nd place. Next up for Burroughs, is the first meeting of the 2023 season with the Burbank Bulldogs on Friday night. This is also Senior Night for the Bears, with first pitch expected to start at 6PM with Senior Night festivities beginning at 5:30PM at Olive Park. Arcadia’s next game will be on Thursday when they visit Crescenta Valley with first pitch at 3:30PM.
