Burbank Falls to Arcadia 2-1 in Extras

The Burbank Bulldogs baseball team saw its losing streak extend to 3 games as they fell to the Arcadia Apaches 2-1 in 8 innings on Tuesday afternoon. Fernando Palencia of Arcadia had a 2 RBI day which included the go-ahead sacrifice fly in extra innings. Apaches starting pitcher Ian Hoffsteeter had a tremendous day on the mound as he struck out 7 batters in his 5.2 innings pitched. He did allow 5 hits and walked 4 batters, but he limited the damage to 1 unearned run. Fernando Palencia came in after and pitched a 1-hitter in relief. Burbank used 4 pitchers in the loss, as Colby Bete started the game and was followed by Danny Edwards, Robert Synder, and Ben Castillo.

The contest was scoreless through 4 innings until Palencia got the scoring going in the top of the 5th inning with a 2-out RBI single. The play of the day happened in both the top and bottom of the 6th inning as Edwards of Burbank, got out of a bases-loaded jam when he struckout Isaiah Spencer looking. Catcher Miklo Reysno then hit the game-tying single in the bottom half of the inning.

The Bulldogs had an injury scare when outfielder Julian Gonzalez was hit in the foot by a pitch in the 7th inning. He will be evaluated on Wednesday, and his status for Friday’s game at Arcadia is up in the air according to Burbank Head Coach Bob Hart. He also shared his thoughts on the team's performance in the loss to Arcadia in extra innings, “Our guys played solid, we could have been better with timely hitting, which is sometimes the nature of the game, I was proud of my guys for playing well.” Hart said. He also praised Colby Bette for his solid performance on the mound after he was taken out after having a high pitch count.

Burbank falls to 9-8 overall and 5-6 in Pacific League play while Arcadia improves to 18-3 Overall and 11-0 in Pacific League play. The 2 teams will go at it again on Friday at Arcadia High School at 3:30PM.
