Burroughs Bears Girls Volleyball 2023 Season Preview

Coming off a tough 7-17 overall record and 5-5 in Pacific League play in 2022, the Burroughs Bears are looking to take the next step this fall. Doing so means they put last season behind them, including their first-round loss in the CIF Playoffs to Santa Barbara. The Bears have aspirations to go further in the CIF Playoffs.

They return several seniors to the varsity squad, supplemented by some key underclass players. Leading the way are seniors Tawnie Ohrt (Outside Hitter), Amina Rock (Defensive Specialist), Tara Rauenswinder (Middle Blocker), and Sadie Lomet (Middle Blocker) who’s a returning all 2nd team Pacific League Honoree. They will be joined by junior Narissa Wareebor (Defensive Specialist), and freshmen Masiyah Chapman (Defensive Specialist) and Zo Davis (Outside Hitter).

Bears head coach Edwin Real shared his thoughts on the upcoming 2023 season, “I’m very excited, … we play in our first competition of the season on Saturday, August 12th, in the Molten Classic Tournament which counts towards the team's regular season record.” He was asked about the four seniors in Ohrt, Rock, Rauenswinder, and Lomet and Real said that they are great kids, going on to say that the student-athletes in the program are all great players in their own way.

In their opening action of the season, Burroughs will play 2 games at the Tae Kim Lakewood Molton Classic Tournament at Mayfield High School. They will kick off their non-league schedule with a road game against Chatsworth High School on Tuesday, August 15 at 3:45 pm. The Bears season home opener will be against Granada Hills at John Burroughs High School on Thursday, August 17 with a scheduled start time of 3:45 pm. Another notable date on their calendar is the final game of the 2023 regular season on Thursday, October 12th. That evening, Burroughs will host the Burbank Bulldogs on senior night to celebrate their graduating players.

The Burroughs Bears Girls' Volleyball Season is just right around the corner as they look to exceed expectations this season.
