Burbank Bulldogs Girls Volleyball 2023 Season Preview

The Burbank Bulldogs are looking for a bounce back from last year’s losing season that saw them finish 7-19 with a 4-5 league record, placing them sixth out of the eight in the Pacific League. The Bulldogs will look for consistency in the 2023 season with Edgardo Geronimo taking over the program. He replaces interim head coach James Cowart, who stepped in for Art Garcia after he left at the beginning of the 2022 season. Geronimo will coach the frosh team and Morgan Bolger will be in charge of varsity, with Issie Smith coaching the junior varsity squad.

Bolger shared her thoughts on the varsity summer practices and the upcoming season opener against Immaculate Heart. “Both the JV and Varsity levels have practiced consistently even though we didn’t play in summer league,” she said, “We’ve practiced a lot of in-game scenarios and I think Tuesday is going to be really good for them. It’s going to be refreshing and I’m excited for the season to start.” She also mentioned that the team is really determined to have a turnaround this year and that not only do the girls work really well together, but they also have a great time working together.

The players hoping to lead this turnaround are seniors, Raquel Fox (Opposite Hitter), Addy Ritter (Opposite/Outside Hitter), Astoria Torres (Middle Blocker), and Olivia Romagino (Libero). Other players to look out for are juniors Jamie Moon (Libero/Defensive Specialist), Arpa Khechadoorian (Setter/Opposite Hitter), and Allie Foenander (Outside Hitter).

The season begins this week with two home games against non-league opponents. First, on Tuesday, August 15 against Immaculate Heart, followed by Louisville on Thursday, August 17. Both games have a 3:30 scheduled start time. There are other key dates on the Bulldog's schedule to keep in mind. On Tuesday, October 3, Burbank will host the Crescenta Valley Falcons in their Dig Pink Breast Cancer Awareness contest. Frosh and JV are scheduled to start at 4:45 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m. The following Tuesday, October 10, the Bulldogs will celebrate their own with Senior Night against the visiting Hoover Tornadoes. Junior Varsity has a 4:45 pm start time and Varsity is scheduled to serve at 6 pm.
