Crescenta Valley Defeats Burroughs in 4 sets

The John Burroughs Bears, are fresh off a 2-1 week as they came off wins against Hoover in a sweep, A 4-set win over South Hills, and a sweeping loss against Glendale. The Crescenta Valley Falcons on the other hand were coming off a sweeping loss to Pasadena and are in first place in the Pacific League. The Bears suffered a 4-set loss to the Falcons as Ady Lopez of CV had a fantastic game with 14 kills and 7 aces while Sienna Lay of Burroughs led her team in 13 kills.

The first set was a neck-and-neck battle as sophomore middle blocker Khloe Pavia, along with seniors Tawine Ohrt and Sadie Lomet contributed with kills along with sophomore outside hitter Sienna Lay as the Bears came up short in that set. The 2nd set was all Falcons, but Sadie Lomet got a kill in that set which led to a 9-25 loss for the Bears in set 2. The Bears responded nicely with a 25-20 win in set 3 but fell short in set 4. “Anytime we get a win against Burroughs it’s a good thing, Coach Real always has his team well prepared when you get a win against Burroughs you know you’ve done something right,” said CV Head Coach Matt Simons. He complimented junior caption Sophia Shin and called her the best libero in the league, but admitted that she struggled a little bit in the game, and ended up having an amazing game.

Burroughs head coach Edwin Real admitted that the team made too many errors in the loss to Crescenta Valley, but had high praise for Sienna Lay’s performance and said that she had a great game.

Crescenta Valley has improved their record to 11-2 overall, and 3-0 in Pacific League play as they are in 1st place by 1 game over Arcadia. Burroughs drops to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in Pacific League play as they are in 6th place ahead of Hoover and Burbank. CV will take on Burbank at home on Thursday, September 7th at 3:45 PM.
