The Power List: 3rd edition

The latest edition of the VST Power List sees familiar faces at the top of the City and Southern Section Valley rankings. Panorama and Burroughs ascend to their highest positions in the rankings, while Notre Dame and Cleveland fall a few spots on their respective lists after suffering their first losses. Here are the top ten rankings of the teams in and around the SFV this week:

City Section Rankings

1. Birmingham Patriots (3-1)

The Patriots are red hot after pasting Hueneme at home to move to 3-1 heading into the bye. They will have the week off before heading to Texas to face Steele High School.

2. Granada Hills Highlanders (2-1-1)

The Highlanders are riding high on the back of two straight wins, the latest against their Granda Hills rivals, Kennedy. They will have a tricky test when Dorsey comes to visit this week.

3. Panorama Pythons (4-0)

The Pythons land at number three after moving to 4-0 after beating up View Park at home last week. Panorama begins Valley Mission play against Sylmar this week.

4. Cleveland Cavaliers (3-1)

The Cavaliers took their first loss and slipped one spot in the rankings this week. They will try to get back in the win column this week at home when Westchester comes to visit.

5. San Fernando Tigers (4-0)

It was an impressive showing for the Tigers, going on the road to hand Verdugo Hills their first loss of the season. They look to be strong contenders when Valley Mission opens play this week.

6. Arleta Mustangs (3-1)

The Mustangs bounced back from their loss to Marquez with a thumping of Southern Section team Trinity Classical at home. They have a big matchup with 3-1 Verdugo Hills to open East Valley play this week.

7. Chatsworth Chancellors (3-1)

The Chancellors make their way back into the top ten this week after an impressive win over Reseda. If Isaiah Rameau continues to put up the numbers he has this season, the Chancellors could find themselves climbing further up the rankings.

8. Kennedy Cougars (2-2)

The Cougars had their 2-game win streak snapped at the hands of their cross-town rivals Granada Hills. Expect them to get back on track with a win against a Reseda squad in the middle of a rebuild.

9. Taft Toreadors (2-2)

The Toreadors had the shocking performance of the week against Grant piling up historical statistics. This will be a tough week on the road at Village Christian though with several key players missing from their lineup in observance of the holiday.

10. Sylmar Spartans (2-2)

The Spartans hang on to the final spot in the rankings despite a tough loss at home against a formidable Santa Monica squad. They’ll move back up the list if they can pull the upset on the road against Panorama.

Honorable Mentions: Verdugo Hills (3-1), El Camino Real (1-3), Chavez (2-2), Van Nuys (2-2), North Hollywood (1-2)

Southern Section Rankings

1. Sierra Canyon Trailblazers (3-0)

Sierra Canyon had the week off, but they will look to keep their top spot next week if they can come away with the victory on the road at Orange Lutheran.

2. Burroughs Bears (4-0)

The Bears are off to a great start this season. They will be tested this week when Chase Everett and Village Christian pay them a visit.

3. Village Christian Crusaders (3-1)

The Crusaders are one of the most entertaining offenses to watch across the Valley. They will look to hand Burroughs their first loss this week.

4. Heritage Christian Warriors (3-1)

The Warriors are a team to be reckoned with in the Valley and they have won three straight contests. They’ll have a good chance to make it four wins in a row when they face an undermanned Taft squad this week.

5. Notre Dame Knights (3-1)

The Knights slipped three spots this week after losing on the road at JSerra Catholic. They’ve got a tough one up next on the road at Westlake on Thursday night.

6. Crescenta Valley Falcons (2-1)

The Falcons went on the road and won comfortably at San Marino. They’ll look to repeat the success of last week when La Canada pays them a visit.

7. Chaminade Eagles (2-2)

The Eagles have struggled to find consistency early in the season. They will look to follow up their victory over Cathedral with a win at home against Loyola.

8. Harvard-Westlake Wolverines (2-2)

The Wolverines are another squad trying to find consistent play in the first part of the season. They’ll use the week off to prepare for a tough contest next week against Northview.

9. Calabasas Coyotes (1-3)

The Coyotes have great young talent, they just have not put together four consistent quarters of football yet. If they can find consistency, they will be a tough opponent when Marmonte League play begins in a couple of weeks.

10. Crespi Celts (1-3)

The Celts take the final spot in the rankings by virtue of the competition they have faced. Crespi has a tough battle at home with Venice this week.

Honorable Mentions: Campbel Hall (1-3), Viewpoint (1-2), Alemany (0-3), Burbank (1-3), Saint Genevieve (0-3)
