Burbank gets swept by Crescenta Valley 3-0 on Dig Pink Night


The Crescenta Valley Falcons were fresh off a 3-set victory over Burroughs as they beat the Burbank Bulldogs in 3 sets at the annual Dig Pink contest at Burbank High School. Burbank was coming off a 3-set loss to Glendale prior to their 2nd meeting with the Falcons. Crescenta Valley hosted the annual event last year which happened back on October 5th of last year. The last time both programs met was back on Thursday, September 7th at Crescenta Valley High School which resulted in a 3-set win for Crescenta Valley over Burbank.

Fans of both teams got to participate in themed raffles, in which all proceeds will be donated to nonprofit charities that support breast cancer awareness and research centers. The drawings that were part of the Dig Pink prizes were, Orangetheory, DeBell Golf Club, Rats Nest Parlor, SG Elite, Corner Bakery, and Artelice Patisserie. Spectators got free tickets when entering the gym as their raffle numbers were announced after the game. “I thought the annual Dig Pink event was awesome, I was really happy with the amount of people that came,” said Burbank varsity head coach Morgan Bolger. She went on to say that it was also staff appreciation night as teachers at Burbank High School were in attendance and that, the student-athletes appreciated it.

The Falcons got the scoring going in the 1st set as freshman outside hitter Adelyn Lopez got the game’s first kill. Burbank then responded with a 4-1 scoring run as Addison Ritner recorded back-to-back aces but the Falcons stormed back to tie the first set at 4 on a kill by CV’s junior outside hitter Hannah Wyroski. In set 2, junior Briana Brenona along with seniors Astoria Torres, Ally Maloy, and Raquel Fox helped with the scoring despite losing that particular set. Set 3 was all CV as they went on a scoring run to put the game away, as it was back and forth from the start. “Every win is a win to be celebrated, we struggled from the start but played better as the game progressed,” said Falcons head coach Matt Simons, He went on to say that Burbank is getting better and praised Coach Morgan Bolger for putting together a well-coached program. Simons also said that freshman Adelyn Lopez had a great game in the win over Burbank, he also admitted that she has a ton of high volleyball IQ and is tough to stop.

The Crescenta Valley Falcons move within 1 game of first place behind Arcaida as they improve their record to 25-4 overall, and 9-2 in Pacific League play. Burbank drops to 3-22 overall and 2-9 in Pacific League play in the loss. CV will host Hoover(Glendale CA) on Thursday, October 5th with first serve at 4:45 PM. Burbank will play a road contest at Arcadia on the same day as the first serve is at 3:45 PM. Burbank’s next home game will be next Tuesday, October 10th when they will take on the Hoover Tornados from Glendale California. The first serve is at 6 PM, and before the game, it will be senior night for the graduating players on the Burbank High girls’ volleyball program as pregame ceremonies will start between 5:30 and 5:45 PM.
