On a night when seven seniors from the Burbank High School girl’s volleyball team were honored and celebrated, the Bulldogs came out victorious against the Hoover Tornados in a sweep. Prior to the game, the seven seniors from Burbank’s girl’s volleyball program that were recognized were, opposite hitter Raquel Fox, middle blocker Astoria Torres, libero/defensive specialist Emily Topajikian, middle blocker Ava Rosalind, libero Olivia Romagnio, outside hitter Addison Ritner, and fellow outside hitter Alison Molloy.

Heading into the match, the Hoover Tornados came off a 3-set loss to Crescenta Valley, while Burbank also came off a 3-set defeat to Arcadia last Thursday.

It was a back-and-forth first set, as the Tornados grabbed the early momentum until Alison Molloy recorded 3 straight aces to propel the Bulldogs to a first-set victory. The Bulldogs carried the momentum into the next period where Astoria Torres recorded 3 kills to help the Bulldogs to win the second set to go up 2-0 in the match. The third set was all Burbank as Raquel Fox had three kills to complete the sweep of the Hoover Tornados. “For me, this was my first group of seniors,” said Burbank Varsity head coach Morgan Bolger, “I cried like a baby during the ceremony but I was so happy that the seven seniors got a ceremony that they deserved.” She went on to say that this wasn’t their best game of the season but admitted that they had fun doing it all season long. “The game was really exciting,” said Burbank High Athletic Director Allison Mckain, “there was alot of energy from the crowd, and the girls felt confident on the floor and moved the ball well tonight and the gym was filled with excitement.”

Burbank improves to 4-23 overall, and 3-10 in Pacific League play, while Hoover drops to 1-21 overall and 0-13 in Pacific League play. Both Burbank and Hoover will play their final games of the 2023 season on Thursday, as Hoover will take on league rival Glendale on Thursday, October 12th at 3:45 PM at Glendale High School while Burbank will take on league rival Burroughs also on the same day as the first serve will be at 6 PM with senior night festivities honoring the graduating seniors from the John Burroughs High School Girls Volleyball program prior to the first serve.
