A new era begins for the Burbank Bulldogs girls’ soccer program as Denis Leon enters his first season as the head coach of the program. Leon takes over for interim head coach Alli McKain, who served in that role towards the end of last season. Last season, the Bulldogs had a losing season where they finished 7th place in the Pacific League with a record of 3-14 overall and 2-12 in league play. They enter this season with new hope and high expectations as they look to put last season in the rearview mirror.

The coaching staff will be a two-person staff as Gustavo Barrondo Caramo will serve as the team’s head junior varsity coach and assist Leon in the varsity contests. The players that will be tasked to guide the Bulldogs to a turnaround season are senior Sophie Peek (midfielder) who is the returning Pacific League’s honorable mention, junior Natalia Gonzalez (forward/midfielder), sophomore Emily Taghon (midfielder) along with freshmen Sophia Leon (forward), Olivia Bauer(defender), and Jocelyn Morinaga(midfielder).

“I’m super excited, we have a lot of talent in this team where we can turn this program around,” said Leon, looking towards his first year at the helm of the program. He went on to say that senior captain Sophie Peek has shown great leadership on and off the field and is hopeful that she will have a great season this year. “Coach Leon has done an amazing job with the team, he’s got club players and is here for the right reasons,” said Burbank athletic director Allison McKain when asked about what Leon will bring to the program.

The Bulldogs will kick off the 2023-2024 season against Immaculate Heart on Tuesday, November 28th at home, following that they will be on the road schedule against Chatsworth on Thursday, November 30th. Other key dates to keep in mind are that Burbank will kick off Pacific League play on Tuesday, December 5th against Muir (Pasadena) along with their final home game against Hoover on Tuesday, January 30th. Stay tuned for coverage of the Burbank High girls soccer 2023-2024 season all season long.
