Burroughs draws with Notre Dame 1-1 in exhibition friendly

The John Burroughs Bears and the Notre Dame Knights played an exhibition friendly on Friday Night at Memorial Field as both teams drew 1-1. Lisandro Robles of Notre Dame and Seven Elkin of Burroughs both scored goals for their teams in the tie. Robles’ goal happened in the first half of play while Elkin’s goal occurred in the second half of play. Burroughs was coming off a 3-2 win over Cleveland back on a rainy Wednesday afternoon while the Notre Dame Knights played their first exhibition friendly of the season.

The Knights are looking to rebound from a losing season a year ago when they finished 5-13-4 overall and 3-8-3 in Mission League play. Notre Dame enters the new season with hopes of returning to a winning form as Adam Yassaman enters his first year as the head coach of the program. He will be tasked to get the Knights back to being playoff contenders after a rough 2022-2023 season as he succeeds Michael Arams in this role.

Senior Lisandro Robles of Notre Dame got the scoring going for the Knights as he got the first goal of the contest to make it a 1-0 game in the first half when Notre Dame controlled possession. The Knights headed into the halftime break with a one-goal lead. In the second half of play, the Bears responded with a goal by sophomore Seven Elkin to make it a 1-1 tie. Burroughs controlled possession for most of the second half and had opportunities away with a win. Following the goal both teams defended well down the stretch to keep the score 1-1 for both the Bears and Knights.

“We were a better team on the field, we should have kept the game simple but if we had done that then the game would’ve been in our set.” said coach Makan Afzali. He mentions that Seven Elkin’s goal was a game-changer in the team’s 1-1 tie over Notre Dame and made the finish when he had to.

Burroughs will take on West Ranch on Tuesday, November 28th with kick-off slated for 3:45 PM, while Notre Dame will take on Valencia High School at home on the same day with kickoff expected to be at 3:30 PM.
