Burbank beats Schurr 4-1 behind George Atallah's 2-goal performance
The Burbank Bulldogs come out victorious with a 4-1 win in their season home opener against the Schurr Spartans as senior George Atallah scored two goals in the contest to lead the Bulldogs to victory over Schurr. Atallah had goals in both the 1st and 2nd half. Heading into the match, The Burbank Bulldogs split the opening road trip with a 1-0 win over Beverly Hills and a 2-2 tie with Hart. Schurr on the other hand is off to a 3-0-0 start as they had wins against South El Monte, Mayfair, and West Covina prior to the matchup with Burbank.
It was all Bulldogs in the 1st half as freshman Grigor Parian got the first goal of the contest for Burbank, then 2 other goals were scored by George Atallah and Erik Antanesyan to make it a 3-0 game while the Bulldogs dominated possession in the opening half. Burbank headed into the halftime break with a 3-0 lead over Schurr.
In the 2nd half, Burbank put the game away with one more goal by George Atallah as he ended up with a two-goal game. Schurr was cold most of the game until junior Juan Cervantes ended the shutout to put the Spartans on the board in the 2nd half while he had control of the ball. Burbank goalkeeper Hayk Tovmasyan had a near-perfect day in the nets as he recorded 5 saves and only allowed 1 goal, while Schurr goalkeeper Xander Orosio recorded 7 saves and allowed 4 goals.
“We needed this win, we struggled to score in our first two games and this game helped us big time to get in rhythm,” said Bulldogs coach Johnny Rotunno. He called Atallah’s performance outstanding when asked about his two-goal game.
Burbank improves to 2-0-1 overall while Schurr drops to 3-1-0. The Bulldogs will return to action after the Thanksgiving break with a road contest against South Pasadena on Tuesday, November 28th with kickoff scheduled for 4 PM. The Schurr Spartans will host Eastside on Wednesday, November 22nd at 12:30 PM.
