Burbank beats Immaculate Heart 1-0 behind Sydney Evens-Armendaris' 20-save performance and Emily Taghan's go-ahead goal in the 2nd half

The Burbank Bulldogs have begun the Dennis Leon era on a good note with a 1-0 win over the Immaculate Heart Pandas as Emily Taghan’s go-ahead goal in the 2nd half along with Sydney Evens-Armendaris’ 20 save performance secured the shutout. The Bulldogs are coming off a losing season a year ago while the Pandas were fresh off an up-and-down season a year ago as they split the first 2 games of the season against Buckley and Hamilton.

While there was no scoring in the 1st half for either team, the Bulldogs came out of the halftime break with momentum as Emily Taghon scored the game’s only goal early in the 2nd half. Edith Creasey of Immaculate Heart had chances to get the Pandas on the board in both halves as both of her shots were blocked or at times the ball went out of play. Hartley Decauwer recorded 2 saves in the loss for the Pandas and allowed 1 goal.

“I thought we did well, we made so much improvement from last season and my goal was good,” said Bulldog’s sophomore midfielder Emily Taghon. Taghon went on to say that she was happy for coach Dennis Leon’s first win as head coach of the Burbank High School girl’s soccer program and is guiding the team in the right direction. She also praised Evens-Armendaris’s 20-save performance and said that she was a brick wall and played fantastic in the nets.

“It was a tough game and we had a great opponent to start the season in Immaculate Heart. Our girls battled it out all game long and I was proud of the effort,” said Bulldogs head coach Dennis Leon. When asked about Bauer’s ejection in the 2nd half, Leon admitted that it was a bad call as she was trying to beat the Immaculate Heart player to the ball which resulted in a red card foul. He also praised Taghon for her go-ahead goal along with Evan Armendaris’s 20-save performance when also asked about their performances.

Burbank will have a road contest with Chatsworth on Thursday, November 30th as they look to improve to 2-0 with kickoff slated for 4:30 PM, while Immaculate Heart will also have a road contest with Westridge on the same day with kickoff slated for 3:15 PM.
