Burbank Falls to Royal 1-0
The Royal Highlanders defeated the Burbank Bulldogs 1-0 after senior Shane Donis of Royal scored the go-ahead goal in the 21st minute of the 2nd half to improve to 2-0 on the season. Heading into the match, Royal was coming off a 3-0 win over Santa Paula back on November 13th, while Burbank defeated South Pasadena 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at South Pasadena High School.
While there was no scoring in the 1st half, there were missed chances by Ramior Almaza of Royal, along with David Agananian and Raymond Soukoazian of Burbank keeping the contest scoreless heading into the halftime break. When the 2nd half began, the Bulldog’s offensive woes continued as George Atalla missed an opportunity to score but during the 21st minute of play, Shane Donis scored the only goal of the game for the Highlanders. Burbank goalkeeper Hayk Tovmasyan recorded 6 saves and allowed 1 goal in the loss for the Bulldogs while Darius Marsh of Royal recorded 3 saves to record a shutout in the win for the Highlanders.
“Honestly I was usually a center back, I was on the wing then headed to the 1-yard line and went for it,” said Shanie Donis. Donis mentioned that he was proud of how his goalkeeper Darius Marsh performed in the net tonight as he called him the main guy in the nets.
“It was a battle, but we didn’t play well as it wasn’t our night,” said Bulldogs head coach Johnny Rotunno. Rotunno admitted that Bulldogs goalkeeper Hayk Tovmasyan kept them in the game and made key stops in the loss.
Burbank gets its first regulation loss of the season as they drop to 3-1-1, they will return to action on Saturday, December 2nd against Taft (Woodland Hills) with kickoff taking place at 12 PM while Royal will play a road contest on Monday, December 4th at 6 PM.
