Burbank draws 0-0 with Crescenta Valley
The Burbank Bulldogs battled to a draw with the Crescenta Valley Falcons 0-0 on a day where there was less offense, but intense defense by both teams. With this draw both teams each get a point in the standings with Burbank dropping to 6th place in the Pacific League standings while Crescenta Valley moves into 3rd place in the league. In the last meeting between the two schools, Burbank lost by 1 goal to CV on Thursday, December 21st. Coming into the match, the Burbank Bulldogs, suffered a 2-1 loss to the Pasadena Bulldogs, while Crescenta Valley was coming off a 1-0 win over Burroughs last Tuesday, January 23rd.
The first half was filled with missed chances by Solemon Alveno Donofrio in the 10th 15th and 31st minute of play for the Falcons, while George Atallah missed a golden opportunity when his shot banged off the crossbar in the 21st minute of play. Grigorian Parian made the play of the half with a blocked shot to prevent a goal by CV in the 38th minute of the half. Both teams were held scoreless at the halftime break.
It was more of the same in the second half as there wasn’t much offense by either side with both teams having no chances at goal. Erik Anyanesyan and Hayk Tovmasyan combined for 4 saves in the net for Burbank while Arvin Navasartian had 1 save in the net for CV.
“I liked how the boys played today, even though we didn’t get the result we wanted. If George Attalah’s goal went in it would have changed the game completely,” said Burbank head coach Johnny Rotunno. Rotunno mentioned that Anyanesyan and Tovmasyan played well in goal despite the draw.
Burbank’s record stands at 7-6-5 overall and 3-5-4 in Pacific League play while Crescenta Valley’s record is at 6-8-2 overall and 6-5-1 overall. Burbank’s next match will be on the road on Tuesday, January 30th at Hoover with kickoff slated for 3:45 p.m. while CV will host Glendale on the same day and time.
