Burbank Bulldogs Softball 2024 season preview
After having another winning season a year ago, The Burbank Bulldogs enter the 2024 season with new hope and expectations. They finished last season with a 14-12 overall record and a 4-5 record in the Pacific League with a first-round exit in the CIF Southern Section Playoffs to Filmore. Entering her 5th season coaching the program is Melissa Sanchez. Her coaching staff will feature Daniella Morris and Orasio Tacho Orozco. Morris will be assisting Sanchez on varsity while Orozco will be handling the head coaching duties on the Junior Varsity Squad. Daisy Beltran, a key assistant for Sanchez for three seasons, will not be returning to the staff this season and has accepted a position to be an assistant coach at College of the Canyons. Sanchez and Morris will also serve as the team’s 1st and 3rd base coaches this season in addition to their roles with the team.
The top returning players on the team will feature, seniors, outfielder Kara Valencia (reigning Pacific Leagues Honorable Mention), catcher & infielder Eliza Boweren (returning all 2nd team Pacific League) junior starting pitcher Maddison Kellogg (returning all first-team Pacific League), and sophomore infielder/pitcher Kayla Orozco. Other players to be on the lookout for this season are senior Belinda Lujano, juniors Samantha Cafferty (2B/SS) and Charley Barnett (1B), and freshmen, Chloe Updike, Kaia Mendoza, and Cassie Kimmer. Kellogg will be playing college softball at Cal Baptist University in 2025.
“This is exciting, we lost a bunch of seniors a year ago but the girls are ready for the challenge,” said Sanchez. She also stated that Kellogg has worked hard to earn the interest from Cal Baptist and for her to sign her commitment in her junior year is outstanding.
