Burbank Bulldogs Boys Volleyball 2024 season preview
Coming off a losing season where the Burbank Bulldogs finished with a 12-23 overall record and a 3-7 record in Pacific League play, a new era has begun for the program. Brandon Villaflor takes over for James Cowart as the program’s new head coach as he enters his first season. Outside of being the head coach of the Burbank High School boy’s volleyball program, Villafor is also a club volleyball coach for the San Gabriel Elite to develop high school players. He was a one-time player for the Bulldogs, in which he was a co-captain on the JV and varsity teams along with winning offensive player of the year in 2019.
Villaflor’s coaching staff will feature Kirk Capala (Head Junior Varsity Coach), Christian Park (Frosh Head Coach), and Jonathan Tapan who will serve as a varsity assistant coach. The players to be on the lookout for this season are, seniors Ryan Viyar (returning all first-team Pacific League) Ian Villaflor (returning all 2nd-team Pacific League) Tayio Nako, and juniors Sam Jurman and Jordan Ribas. Those players will be tasked to help rebuild the Bulldogs back to greatness, which could lead to an exciting season ahead.
“I’m very excited, last year was my first dive into coaching and I didn’t know what to expect even though the results last season weren't the best. I took it as a learning experience.” said rookie head coach Brandon Villaflor. He admitted that his coaching staff is all Burbank High alumni and is excited to start with them. Villaflor also said that he could go on and on when asked about his captains Ryan Viyar, Ian Villaflor, and Jordan Ribas this season.
