Bulldogs go 2-0 in the two home games at Kemp Kallem Field

The Burbank Bulldogs come away with their second dominant performance in as many weeks, defeating the Glendale Nitros 64-0 to go 2-0 in the home games on their campus. Last week Burbank had an identical 61-22 victory over the Hoover Tornados, while Glendale was blown out by Arcadia 41-0 last week.

Before kickoff, the graduating seniors from the Burbank High School Marching Band, Color Guard, and Pom squads celebrated with their families in pregame ceremonies. Justin Aretaga, Eliot Aghajani, Mackenzie Cavanaugh, David Chpolansky, Jo Clark-Volpe, Nora Crivelli, Mateyo De Laon, Kaizley Gonzaga, Sami Harvel, Beckett Konstantine, Nathan Kritkashyan, Miguel Ressurreccion, Annabella Tran, Sky Lee, and Noeelel Mitchel headlined the 16 seniors on marching band. On the football field, the Bulldogs put up 20 first-quarter points as DeShawn LaPorte got Burbank on the board first with a goal-line touchdown run. Max Kelly scored a jet sweep touchdown to put Burbank up 13-0, while Laporte recorded his second touchdown of the opening quarter with a 13-yard quarterback run. The Bulldogs continued their strong first half with Tyler Hudson catching an eight-yard touchdown reception. A successful two-point conversion from Daniel Zackariaz to Aidan Dagher in the end zone would make the score 28-0 in the second quarter.

The play of the night happened when Thomas Adzhemyan recorded a blocked punt and Chase Miles recovered the ball and took it to the house to give Burbank a 35-0 lead over Glendale. Burbank’s defense then forced a turnover on downs to set up another score. This time it was Joseph Caballero who ran it in at the goal line for six to make the score 42-0 following the extra point. Elijah Pendelton also contributed on special teams with a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown to give Burbank a 49-0 lead heading into intermission.

During halftime, 12 graduating seniors from the Burbank Bulldogs football program and 11 graduating seniors from the Burbank high cheer squad were honored and celebrated with their families. Daniel Zackariaz, Ezekiel Alaverez, Max Kelly, Aiden Ramirez, Jack Rogerson, Landon Williams, Isaiah Solis, Justin Arteaga, Sebastian Mirkazian, Andrew Guerra, Aidan Miller, and Paul Sukunyan headlined the 12 seniors on the Bulldogs football program and cheer captains Nuha Manjalo and Ruby Garcia headlined the 11 cheer seniors on the Burbank High cheerleading team.

The Bulldogs picked up where they left off from the first half with DeShawn LaPorte taking it to the house with a 47-yard touchdown run and Daniel Zackariaz connected with Ezekiel Alvarez with another two-point conversion to give them a 57-0 lead in the third quarter. Justin Artega intercepted Glendale quarterback Elijah Venegas setting up LaPorte’s second touchdown pass of the night. He found Ezekiel Alvarez in the end zone to make the score 64-0.

“I was proud of the boys tonight, we made sure that we executed on offense and defense but at the same time our special teams came through,” said Bulldogs coach Hector Valencia. Valencia noted that the halftime ceremony honoring the 12 football seniors was fantastic and everything turned out perfectly. He also said that the senior class of 2025 in the football program started with Adam Colman and will end their high school careers with him.

Burbank improves to 5-2 overall and a 3-1 record in Pacific League play to remain a game back of crosstown rival Burroughs for second place while Glendale drops to 1-6 overall and a 0-4 record in the Pacific League. Both teams will return to action next Friday, October 25th, as the Glendale Nitros will host the John Muir Mustangs at Moyse Stadium in Glendale High and the Burbank Bulldogs will host the Crescenta Valley Falcons at Memorial Field in John Burroughs High School.
