In the final power rankings on the regular season for girls’ volleyball, a Valley Mission heavyweight fights their way on to the list as they look to round into shape just in time for the postseason. Here is the final regular season edition of the top ten teams headed into the playoffs in the San Fernando Valley:

1- Taft Toreadors (37-7) Last Week: #1

The Toreadors wrapped up a terrific regular season with a Valley Mission title and the number one overall seed in the Open Division playoffs. They will open the postseason as the favorites to win the title.

2- Grant Lancers (27-5-4) Last Week: #2

The Lancers close the regular season with the East Valley championship and will have the #2 seed in the Division I playoffs. Expect a deep run and a possible trip to CSUN for this bunch.

3- Cleveland Cavaliers (18-16) Last Week: #3

The Cavs finished the season third in the West Valley standings, but they may be peaking at just the right time. After finishing the season with three straight wins in league, they will see a familiar foe in the first round of the Open Division playoffs.

4- Kennedy Cougars (22-10-3) Last Week: #4

The Valley Mission champs take fourth in the final power rankings after holding on the wrestle the league away from Reseda this year. The Cougars have been awarded the top seed in Division II for a stellar campaign and it would not be surprising to see this squad make a deep run.

5- Chatsworth Chancellors (26-18) Last Week: #6

The Chancellors take the fifth spot after a strong end to the season in the West Valley. For my money this team might be under seeded in the Open, but itis really grasping straws between the eight squads who got in. Do not be surprised if the Chancellors pull the upset in the first round.

6- Granada Hills Highlanders (21-11) Last Week: #5

The Highlanders stumbled down the stretch, but this team is as talented as any in the Open Division. They’ll get a chance to change the narrative of the last few weeks with a victory over Cleveland in the first round.

7- Reseda Regents (13-3) Last Week: #7

The Regents persevered through a tough campaign to coming within a few points of repeating as the Valley Mission champions. They were awarded the top seed in the Division III bracket and should make a real run at taking the championship

8- Triumph Jaguars (24-7-5) Last Week: #8

The Jaguars are best kept secret in the city section and have a pocket full of league titles to prove it. It might be time to add a city championship to that collection. It won’t be easy with teams like Kennedy, Chavez and Vaughn in the field, but this team has played above their weight all season long.

9- El Camino Real Royals (12-14) Last Week: #9

Throw the record out the window when you talk about the Royals. The defending Open Division champions know it’s all about what you do from here. They have a tough draw in the first round of the Open against Palisades, but this group has the experience to make things interesting next week.

10- Sylmar Spartans (21-21-1) Last Week: N/A

The Spartans have had a rollercoaster of a season, but the reason they grabbed the final spot on this list is they seem to have found their mojo late in the season. Sylmar is a sleeping giant in the Division I bracket and the teams around them hope they will not continue to rediscover their championship form in the next two weeks.

Quote of the week

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
