The Bulldogs are one win away from a perfect season

The Pasadena Bulldogs continued their undefeated streak with a 2-1 win over the Burroughs Bears putting Pasadena one win away from history. Back on Saturday, Pasadena secured a narrow 1-0 win over the Crescenta Valley Falcons and Burroughs battled to a 1-1 draw with Muir on Senior Morning where the Bears honored their graduating seniors for their time and commitment to the program.

Both teams started the first half with missed chances to score goals. Seven Elkin missed a goal chance in the third minute and David Vieyra also missed one in the 24th minute. Justin Trigo got the offense going for the Bears with the match’s first goal in the 28th minute of the first half.  David Vieyra and Fabian Reyes responded for Pasadena with goals in the 32nd and 40th minutes of the first half to put the Bulldogs up 2-1 at the half.

The second half was filled with all defense for both teams, but Seven Elkin both missed chances to tie the game in both the 8th and 36th minutes of play for Burroughs. Pasadena also missed out on goal chances as Roberto Martinez Cortez, Peter Min, and Evan Wilson had opportunities to provide insurance. Martinez Cortez missed an attempt at goal in the 10th minute and also missed a free-kick in the 14th minute.

Alan Rubio had five saves in net along with one goal allowed for Pasadena and Joseph Kaufman had four saves and allowed two goals. Jacob Saldana came in relief for Kaufman, and made three saves, with no goals allowed for Burroughs.

“It was a great game. The boys worked hard but the schedule that we have now makes it difficult for us to stay fresh. In the end, we did not get the result we wanted against a team that’s chasing perfection,” said Makan Afzali. Afzali said that his two goalkeepers Joseph Kaufman and Jacob Saldana did what they could in the loss to Pasadena.

Burroughs falls to 5-9-3 overall and 1-2-3 in Pacific League Play and Pasadena improves to 16-0-0 overall and 6-0-0 in Pacific League play. Burroughs will play Burbank on Tuesday, February 4th and Pasadena will look to complete the undefeated season on Wednesday, February 5th against Muir. Both games will start at 3:45 p.m.

Quote of the week

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
