Grace Barton leads the Lady Bears with 15 points in the win over the Lady Rams 

In a rematch of two teams that played at the Grant High School showcase back on Saturday, January 25th the John Burroughs Lady Bears had it their way in the second meeting against the Millikan Lady Rams.  Millikan won a close one, 32-28 in the first meeting. Burroughs dominated the rematch with a 40-12 win behind 15 points by Grace Barton to move on to the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2A playoffs. Heading into the first-round contest, Burroughs ended their regular season with a blowout 71-27 win over cross-town rival Burbank back on Wednesday, February 5th and Millikan was coming off a 79-38 win over Compton back on Tuesday, February 4th. 

Grace Barton and Berlin Stonis traded three-point baskets to start the first quarter. Barton followed up with another three-point basket to give Burroughs a 6-3 lead over Millikan. Valentina Morales recorded a two-point basket to give the Lady Bears an 8-3 lead. Ky-Llyiah Clardy responded with back-to-back two-point baskets to put the Lady Rams within one. Mariam Fahs made a two-point bank shot to help Burroughs lead by three to end the opening quarter. 

The Lady Bears held the Lady Rams to no points in the second quarter as Mariam Fahs, Grace Barton, Isabella Amayakyan, Izzy Amoroso, and Valentina Morales all chipped in with the scoring. Burroughs ended the first half with a 24-7 lead over Millikan. 

Grace Barton and Valentina Morales jump-started the scoring to start the second half as Barton nailed down a three-point shot and Morales converted one of two shots at the foul line. The Lady Bears continued to put away the one-sided affair over the Lady Rams to help them lead 38-12 heading into the fourth quarter. Valentina Morales converted both of her foul shots to start the final quarter which was the only points for either side in the fourth quarter. 

The Burroughs Lady Bears will move on to the second round CIF Southern Section Division 2A Playoffs and will take on the Village Christian Lady Crusaders.
