Colby Bette strikes out 14 batters in the win for the Bulldogs 

The Burbank Bulldogs extend their winning streak to two games as they defeat the De Toledo Jaguars 4-1 behind Colby Bette’s 14-strikeout performance. Bette went seven strong, allowed one earned run and one hit in the win for the Bulldogs. Burbank came off a 5-1 win over New Roads last Friday over the spring break, and De Toledo is fresh off a 6-3 loss to YULA in the first of a back-to-back. 

Both the Bulldogs and Jaguars began the game by getting on the board in the first inning. Owen Kasif recorded a two-out RBI single in the top of the first inning and Adrian Vasquez then tied the game in the bottom of the first by scoring from third base on an error charged to Kasif. Tomas Angel had a chance to give Burbank the lead with Ryland LeClair at first, but Angel grounded out to shortstop Zander Friedman to end the bottom of the first. Both teams were held scoreless in innings two and three as both teams left a man on base in their respective half of the second inning. 

The Bulldogs had an opportunity to break the game open in the bottom of the third inning when the bases were loaded for Michael Bui, but Bui grounded out to second base to leave the bases full heading into the top of the fourth inning. 

Burbank then jumped out in front when Julian Recinos scored on another error charged to Kasif in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jeremy Lee drove in an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single to score Robert Snyder to seal it for the Bulldogs. 

Colby Bette nearly retired the side in order in the top of the seventh inning, but Ben Robitshek automatically advanced to first base on a catcher’s interference call on Jeremy Lee. Robitshek was then picked off at first base to end the game. 

“We needed to be more aggressive at the plate, but once we get a quality win under our belt, we will show more confidence offensively,” said Bob Hart. Hart praised Bette for his performance on the mound with his first pitch strikes and not allowing walks, which is a recipe for success. 

Burbank improves to 3-5 and De Toledo drops to 4-6 on the season. The Bulldogs will look to extend their winning streak to three games when they resume Pacific League play next Tuesday, April 1st, when they host Hoover with first pitch slated for 3:45 p.m., and De Toledo will play the second of a back to back against Shalhevet at home with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
