The one-time playoff hero delivers in the clutch again 

The John Burroughs Bears started Pacific League play off on the right foot with Alyssa Morales recording her second career walk-off winner for the Bears. Morales hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to help Burroughs come away with a tight 2-1 win over Muir. Burroughs finished off the Woodbridge Dugard Tournament by going 1-1 on the final day of the tourney, which resulted in a 3-2 record. The Bears escaped with a 10-8 win over Woodbridge in a slugfest and then lost to El Toro 7-4 over the weekend. Muir entered the contest by coming off a 9-7 win over Western Christian in the first game of a back-to-back. 

Both the Bears and Mustangs were held scoreless in the first inning, with both teams leaving a runner in scoring position. Muir left Eriel Wallace stranded at second base, and then, Alyssa Morales was left stranded at third base in the home half of the first inning. The Mustangs got on the board first at the top of the second inning as Erica Wallace recorded an RBI sacrifice fly. Burroughs and Muir were held scoreless in the next three innings. Karlee Earl began the bottom of the sixth inning with a game-tying solo home run when everyone thought the Bears were going to fall 1-0 to Muir. 

Burroughs and Muir were then held scoreless in the seventh inning sending the game into extra innings with both teams playing down to the wire softball. Both teams were again held without runs in the eight and ninth innings until the Bears put together a big rally in the bottom of the 10th inning. Alli Cortez started it off by reaching base on a walk. She was replaced by pinch runner Claire Simon. Karisma Mendez then moved Simon over to second base with an attempted  sacrifice bunt. Both runners advanced to second and third base respectively on an error charged to first baseman Jazmin Jaquez. Alyssa Morales drove home Simons to walk it off for the Bears in 10 innings. 

“It was a great softball game with both teams that play great defense and don’t give an inch.” said Doug Nicol. Nicol added that Karisma Mendez laid down a perfect bunt and when Karlee Earl, Chloe Centeno or Morales come up to the plate with runners in scoring position the chances of them delivering in a clutch moment is high. 

Burroughs improves to 10-3 overall and 1-0 in Pacific League play with Muir dropping to 9-6 overall and 0-1 in Pacific League play. Both teams will resume Pacific League action on Thursday, April 3rd as Burroughs will host Arcadia and Muir will host Crescenta Valley. Both first pitches will be scheduled at 3:45 p.m.
