Chase Robinson scores the game-winning run to complete the shutout win for the Bears 

The John Burroughs Bears continued their offensive explosion in their 10-0 mercy rule win over the Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary Cardinals. Chase Robinson scored the game’s 10th run in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the mercy rule win.. Heading into Thursday night’s contest, Burroughs came off another 10-0 mercy rule victory over Monroe back on Tuesday, April 8th, and Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary also had a 20-0  mercy rule win over St Genevieve back on Monday, April 7th. 

Kyle Smith started the night by retiring the first nine batters he faced without allowing a hit or a walk. The Bears got the offense going early, scoring the first three runs of the game in the home half of the first inning, as Andrew Cosio, Jack Smith, and Slater Mersola recorded RBIs. While both the Bears and Cardinals were held scoreless in the second and third innings, Jackson Villigran got the Cardinals their first hit of the game in the top of the fourth inning, but Zander Hernandez struck out swinging to leave Villigran stranded to end the inning. Elliot Ross drove home Zack Guevara to give Burroughs a comfortable 4-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

Burroughs then put up a four-run fifth inning with Slater Mersola and Jake Rauenswider both helping the Bears drive in those runs. Kyle Smith went the distance on the mound, allowing only two hits and striking out eight batters without allowing any walks in his complete game shutout. Zack Guevara had a chance to drive home Chase Robinson in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Robinson scored on a wild pitch by Derek Vega to complete the mercy rule win over Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary. 

Following the game the Burroughs Baseball team invited the local youth baseball teams onto the field to run the bases as they hosted little league baseball night for kids that play baseball in the Parks and Recreations departments. 

Burroughs improves to 17-3 and Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary falls to 7-8. Burroughs will host Shadow Hills on Saturday, April 12th at noon and Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary will play at Bosco Tech on Monday, April 14th at 3:15 p.m.
