DeShawn LaPorte’s four touchdown passes propelled the host Bulldogs to a convincing win















In the battle of the Bulldogs football showdown, the Burbank Bulldogs came away with a 35-14 win over the Pasadena Bulldogs behind DeShawn LaPorte’s four-touchdown passing performance. The 21-point win over the visiting Bulldogs is the second straight for Burbank and their fourth win in their last five games. Back in week 6, Burbank came off a 55-13 win over Arcadia, with Pasadena blowing out Hoover 66-8 last Friday night.




Burbank started the scoring on the first offensive drive of the game in the first quarter. LaPorte found Elijah Pendleton for a 12-yard touchdown pass, which was followed by a successful extra point attempt by Ryan Mendoza to give the host Bulldogs a 7-0 lead. Dutch Burbidge thought he recorded a touchdown pass to Daniel Freeman in the end zone, but Burbidge committed an illegal forward pass penalty, which resulted in a 10-yard penalty for Pasadena. Burbank forced a turnover on downs, which set up another score for the host Bulldogs.




Elijah Pendleton put Burbank up by 14 with an 11-yard touchdown run, along with another extra point try being successful by Ryan Mendoza. Burbidge found Daniel Freeman for a long pass play to convert on fourth down and put Pasadena in great field position. Xavion Flournoy then scored their first touchdown of the game, and Allen Rubio successfully converted the point after try to make it a seven-point game. Burbank led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.








LaPorte found Tyler Hudson for a two-yard touchdown pass to get the Bulldogs’ lead back to 14 with the first score of the second quarter. Chase Miles made sure his name was called in the quarter. He intercepted Burbidge’s first pass attempt on the ensuing possession. LaPorte then connected with Miles from 12 yards out for his third touchdown pass of the game to increase the host Bulldog lead to 28-7. Burbank’s defense stood tall again, and Burbidge’s pass was intercepted in the end zone to end the first half.




Following the halftime break, the host Bulldogs increased their lead to 28 when LaPorte found Johnny Sale for a 25-yard touchdown connection to give Burbank a 35-7 lead. That score was the only one for either team in the third quarter. Syncere Pitts took it to the house for a five-yard touchdown run for the only score in the fourth quarter for either side. Troy Wells’ 24-yard run sealed the game for the host Bulldogs as they ran out the clock for a 21-point win.






Burbank improves to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in Pacific League play, while Pasadena drops to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in Pacific League play. Burbank, Pasadena, and Burroughs sit in a three-way tie for second place in the standings heading into week eight of the high school football season.




Both teams will return to action for their week eight games next week. Pasadena will take on Crescenta Valley for a Thursday night showdown at Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, with Burbank hosting Hoover, which will include pregame and halftime ceremonies honoring the graduating seniors on the Burbank High football, cheer, pom, and marching band/color guard squads. Both of those games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
