The Burbank Bulldogs begin year three of the Johnny Rotunno Era

Bulldogs looking to build off a 12 win season a year ago

The Burbank Bulldogs are looking to build off a season where they made the playoffs last winter in year three under head coach Johnny Rotunno, as they will look to take things a step further following their first round exit this past February. The Bulldogs finished last season with a 12-5-3 overall record and a 3-3-1 record in Pacific League play with an appearance in the CIF Southern Section Division Four Playoffs. Burbank lost to Santa Ana 3-0 in the first round of the playoffs.

Rotunno will take on an expanded role in his third year coaching the program. He will not only serve as the head coach and program director but will also coach the Junior Varsity and Frosh teams. Rotunno’s coaching staff will feature Erik Gharibrian, Alex Rendros, Vazrik Shahoumyan and athletic trainer Henrick Torosian.

“Every year we’ve made some improvements with our program, we had time to implement things that can help us be successful heading into the new season,” said Rotunno. The third year coach added that Erik Gharibrian has had a good working relationship with the guys on the current varsity roster but is ready for the challenge ahead.

The Players to watch out for this season are seniors Victor Chtryan (team captain), Aram Hovanessian (team captain), Raymond Soukiazian, juniors Chase Verhoven (returning first team all Pacific League), Harout Akopyan (returning Pacific League’s Honorable Mention) and sophomore Davit Tadevosyan. Soukiazian led the team with seven assists as a junior along with Tadevosyan leading the team with nine goals and 21 points.

The Bulldogs will begin the 2025-2026 season on Tuesday, November 18th against LaCanada in their season home opener at 3:45 p.m. They will also begin Pacific League play on Monday December 1st against Arcadia on the road at 3:45 p.m. The Bulldogs will take on their crosstown rival Burroughs Bears on Thursday, January 15th at Burbank High School and then again on Tuesday, February 3rd at John Burroughs High School. Senior Night will take place on Thursday, January 29th at 3:45 p.m. Stay tuned for coverage of Burbank Bulldogs Boys Soccer all season long.
