The Burbank Bulldogs and Glendale Nitros soccer teams played to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday as they kept their current positions in the Pacific League standings. Joseph Phineas of Burbank recorded two saves in goal while Leonardo Alishan recorded three saves for Glendale. Last Friday, Burbank suffered a heartbreaking 0-1 to Crescenta Valley and Glendale drew 2-2 with Burroughs.

The Bulldogs  had an early offensive push, but committed an offsides violation in the 6th minute of the first half. Glendale earned a free kick in the 28th minute of play, but Erik Tsaturyan was unable to put the Niros ahead. The Bulldogs had opportunities at goal in the 31st and 33rd minutes by Aram Varduyman and Joseph Chavez, but failed to convert. Just before halftime, Grigor Parian missed an opportunity to score the game’s first goal and both teams headed into the halftime break scoreless.

Tsaturyan had another opportunity to give the Nitros the lead, but his 9th minute chance missed.  The Bulldogs committed their second offsides of the game in the 14th minute of play, halting another offensive push. The defenses for both teams put on a clinic and neither had any more real chances to score goals throughout the second half. They battled against each other until the final whistle, with the match ending in a scoreless tie.

Burbank sits at 3-7-3 overall and 0-3-3 in Pacific League, last place in the standings, still looking for their first win in league play. Glendale now sits at 5-3-3 overall and 2-1-3 in the Pacific League, fifth place and a game behind Pasadena for fourth. Both teams will return to action on Thursday, January 15th against their crosstown rivals. Burbank will host Burroughs at Kemp Kallem Field and Glendale will host Hoover at Moyse Stadium. Both games will take place at 3:45 p.m.

Quote of the week

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
