Joseph Chavez’s second half insurance goal propelled the Bulldogs with two goal win over the Bears



The Burbank Bulldogs finish the regular season with a 2-0 win over Burroughs, increasing hope of a CIF Southern Section Playoff at large bid. Joseph Chavez scored a big second half goal to seal the two-goal victory for the Bulldogs. Over the weekend Burroughs came off a 3-1 loss to Muir and Burbank came off a 1-1 draw to Glendale.



Ryan Mendoza racked up four saves in the shutout win for Burbank. Jacob Saldana allowed one goal and had one save in net and Joseph Kaufman added two saves in relief of Saldana.


Diego Benis got the scoring going in the 27th minute of the first half to put the Bulldogs up 1-0. The teams combined for eight chances in the opening half, four each. The four chances from the Bears were not converted and the Bulldogs missed three, with Benis’ goal the only conversion.


Seven Elkin had all four for the Bears to lead both teams, with his coming in the eighth, 13th, 14th and 40th minutes of the first half. Davit Tadevosyan had missed chances in the 16th and 26th minutes and Victor Chtryan missed a scoring chance in the 19th minute. The Bulldogs held on to a one goal lead at the halftime break.


Following the halftime break, the Bulldogs were caught offside in the 12th minute and then Nathan Bay missed an opportunity to give Burbank an insurance goal in the 13th minute. Chavez scored his clutch insurance goal to put Burbank up 2-0 in the 27th minute of play.



Burbank improves to 8-9-4 overall and 5-5-4 in Pacific League play and Burroughs drops to 7-12-2 overall and 3-10-1 in Pacific League play.



Burbank will find out its CIF Southern Section at Large fate on Saturday, February 7 at 10:00 a.m. and Burroughs season has come to a close.



Following the conclusion of the Burbank Burroughs boys soccer game seven graduating seniors on the Burroughs High School boys soccer program were honored and celebrated in a postgame ceremony. Those seniors that are part of the graduating class of 2026 are James Narmore, Christopher Mendez, Seven Elkin, Leo Gersh, Gavin West-Monroe, Jackson Palmer and Jordan Seas.
