Bears four run bottom of the second inning propelled them to a quarterfinal win over the Rams


The John Burroughs Bears advanced to the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 4 playoffs following a 7-2 win over Ramona in the quarterfinals, highlighted by a four-run bottom of the second inning for the Bears. Sophie Rangsiwayong and Karlee Earl each hit two-run RBI doubles for the scoring in the inning.


The Rams were held scoreless to begin the top as Valentina Reyes worked around two baserunners – an infield single allowed to Daisy Guzman and a walk to Emily Gonzalez. Gonzalez was out at second base following a runner’s interference to end the top half of the first.


The Bears got on the board in the bottom half of the inning when Karlee Earl hit an RBI single for the game’s first run. Reyes returned to the circle and recorded a 1-2-3 top of the second inning to bring Burroughs back out for the decisive bottom half.



The Rams got their offense going in the top of the third inning by putting up two runs. Guzman and Emily Gonzalez both drove in runs to make it a 5-2 game.


Kalani Miramontes made an over the shoulder catch to rob Mady Granillo of extra bases to end the top of the inning. Rangsiwayong came through in the Burroughs half with a two-out an RBI single to put the Bears up 6-2.


Sydney Sugar capped the scoring with a two-out RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the lead to five. Reyes closed out her complete game by retiring the side in order in the top of the seventh inning.


Burroughs will take on Mission Viejo in the CIF Southern Section Division Four softball semifinals on Saturday, May 23rd. The winner will take on either Oxnard or Monrovia in the championship game.
