After 2 seasons at the helm, Kris Jabourian steps down as the head coach of the Burbank High School Girls Basketball Program. Jabourian guided the Lady Bulldogs to a CIF Southern Section Playoff appearance in his first year at the helm, which resulted in a 1st round exit to Corona Del Mar during the 2022-2023 season. That season, Jabourian led Burbank to a 15-14 overall record and 9-5 in Pacific League play. This past season Burbank finished with a 7-19 overall record and 4-10 record in Pacific League play, missing the playoffs in what turned out to be Jabourian’s final season coaching the team.

The search committee will feature Athletic Director Allison McKain, Assistant Principal of Athletics and Activities John Wells, and School Principal Julie Markusen. Either Wells or Markusen will have the final call on who will replace Jabourian as the next head coach of the Lady Bulldogs basketball program. A decision for that will most likely take place sometime in April before the team prepares for summer league basketball.

“Kris and I talked several weeks about it, he knew that decision was on his mind, there were other opportunities out there,” said Burbank High Assistant Principal John Wells. Wells stated that the position had been flown and would remain open for 2 weeks before interviews took place with candidates that are interested in the job.

The next head coach that takes over will be tasked to rebuild the team from worst to first next season and will do so with a handful of returners headlined by senior forward Lauren Navarro on the varsity squad.

Quote of the week

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
