reseda sits at #5 in the rankings this week.

In the second edition of the VST power rankings for girls’ volleyball, the teams remain the same, but the top dogs currently in the East Valley were the biggest movers this week. Here is the Valley Sports Telegrams list of the ten best squads taking the court this week:

1. Taft Toreadors (22-4)        Last Week:#1

The Toreadors continue to show they are the best team in the city section. This week, they put up two straight-set victories to run their winning streak to eleven matches.

        2. Grant Lancers (19-4-2)    Last Week: #5

The Lancers remain hot as fish grease. After a convincing 3-0 win over University this week, the Lancers have an 18-match unbeaten streak.

        3. Panorama Pythons (18-2) Last Week:#3

The Pythons won both matches this week and remain at #3. Panorama sits at 5-1 in the Valley Mission with Van Nuys next up on Monday afternoon.

        4. Granada Hills Highlanders (20-7)   Last Week: #2

The Highlanders slipped a couple of spots this week, but they remain one of the best teams in the city. Granda took care of both Cleveland and El Camino Real to move to 4-0 in the West Valley this week.

        5. Reseda Regents  (9-2)     Last Week: #4

Reseda falls one spot this week after going 1-1 in Valley Mission league play. This team is still dangerous, as they have won 23 out of the last 30 sets they’ve played.

        6. Cleveland Cavaliers (12-11)  Last Week: #6

It was a week of opposites for the Cavs, following a straight-set defeat to Granada with a dominant victory over Birmingham.

        7. Kennedy Cougars (9-5-2)  Last Week: #8

The Cougars are in the mix with Reseda and Panorama for a Valley Mission title. A huge clash with Reseda is coming up next week.

        8. Triumph Jaguars (13-5-4)  Last Week:#9

The Jaguars might come from a small league, but these girls play like a top city squad. The Jags have won 21 of their last 14 sets played, and don’t look like they will be slowing down anytime soon.

        9. Chatsworth Chancellors (9-13) Last Week: #7

It has been rough for a couple of weeks for the Chancellors, but their schedule has been brutal since they hosted the Chatsworth tournament. Don’t let recent results fool you, this team will be tough to deal with the rest of the way.

        10. El Camino Real Royals (6-9) Last Week: #10

As rough as it has been for Chatsworth, you can say the same for the Royals. Their next chance to turn the momentum around in their season comes on Monday when they host league rival Cleveland.

          Quote of the week

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
