Heading into Week Eight action in the San Fernando Valley, The VST power rankings for football are here. The top six of the lists remains unchanged with All the squads picking up impressive wins, while the only newcomer on the list this week comes out of the East Valley with championship dreams still on the table after a hard-fought win last week. This is the top ten teams heading into action this week in the SFV:
1 – Birmingham Patriots (2-4) Last Week: #1
Another week, another dominate performance in the city section for the Patriots. They can move one step closer to another West Valley title with a victory over rival Cleveland Friday night.
2 – Kennedy Cougars (5-2) Last Week: #2
The Cougars are rolling in Valley Mission play, but they have a tough task ahead of them versus Sylmar who also come into this week undefeated in the Valley Mission. A win here puts them firmly in the driver’s seat for the league title.
3 – North Hollywood Huskies (7-0) Last Week: #3
The Huskies are the only unbeaten team remaining in the entire city section and don’t look like they have any plans on losing. They’ll host Fulton for Homecoming this week looking to be the first team to eight wins this season.
4- Cleveland Cavaliers (4-3) Last Week: #4
The Cavaliers remain on the fourth spot after gutsy win over Chatsworth last week. they’ll have their work cut out for them this week facing Birmingham, but a win here not only puts the in first place in the West Valley but might see them take the top of this list next week.
5 – Arleta Mustangs (5-2) Last Week: #5
The Mustangs have been rolling since they dropped the league opener to north Hollywood. I have a feeling the Mustangs would love to get a chance to the Huskies again in the postseason if the fates allowed it to happen. For now, they will focus on picking up their sixth win of the season when they head on the road to face Poly this week.
6 – Sylmar Spartans (5-3) Last Week: #6
The Spartans have quietly put together a season worth talking about. The conversation will only get louder if they can find a way to take down the #2 team on this list this week in a matchup for first place in the Valley Mission on the line.
7 – Van Nuys Wolves (5-2) Last Week: #9
Don’t look now, but the Wolves are for real folks. Van Nuys are a fun bunch to watch on offense, and the fireworks should be on full display this week when they look to notch their sixth win of the season and third in a row when they face Canoga Park this week.
8 – Granada Hills Highlanders (2-5) Last Week: #10
The Highlanders have had a tough schedule to navigate for a team as young as they are, and it doesn’t get easier this week when they go on the road to face Elco. A strong win could see them move up the list and position themselves for potential home games in the postseason.
9 – Verdugo Hills Dons (5-2) Last Week: N/A
The Dons have moved into the top ten in the power rankings after a nice win at home over Poly last week. While the Huskies are the talk of the East Valley this season, Verdugo Hills is still in position with a strong finish to have a chance to upset the applecart and steal the title away. But first they have to take care of business on the road versus a high-octane Grant offense that would like to do nothing more than crush their title hopes.
10 – El Camino Real Royals (2-5) Last Week: #8
The Royals hang on to the tenth spot this week, but it is a precarious position at best after suffering a 50-point route at the hands of Birmingham last week. They will have a chance to rebound in a big way when a young Granda hills bunch comes to play this week.
