With all of the league championships squared away, the penultimate power rankings for girls’ volleyball in the San Fernando Valley have arrived. The East and West Valley champs maintain their spots on the list, while the Valley Mission champs slide into the top four this week. Here are the top ten teams this week on VST’s power rankings:
1 – Taft Toreadors (35-7) Last Week: #1
What more can be said about the West Valley champions. they have dominated city competiton all season and looked poised for a deep playoff run. Taft will wrap up the regular season Monday with an intriguing matchup with Sylmar.
2 – Grant Lancers (25-5-4) Last Week: #2
The Lancers put a bow on the East Valley with wins over Verdugo Hills and Arleta this week. They will look to go a perfect 12-0 in the East Valley with a win over Poly in their regular season finale next Monday.
3 – Cleveland Cavaliers (17-16) Last Week: #4
The Cavaliers have had a tough season due largely to the fact that their schedule has been brutal on top of playing in the West Valley. This team is far more dangerous than their record suggests, as evidence of their 4-set victory over ElCo this week.
4 – Kennedy Cougars (22-10-3) Last Week: #5
The Valley Mission champions move into the fourth spot this week after a tough five-set victory over Sylmarin their regular season finale this week. It cannot be overlooked what Kennedy has done this season, after dropping their league opener to Reseda in straight sets. The Cougars would go on to win the rest of their league matchups, which they needed to do to unseat the Regents as the league champs.
5 -Granada Hills Highlanders (21-10) Last Week: #3
The Highlanders slide a couple of spots, but remain in the top-five this week. They fell in four sets to Taft this week, but will have a chance to end the regular season on a high note agsint El Camino on onday afternoon.
6 – Chatsworth Chancellors (26-18) Last Week: #6
The Chancellors maintain the number six spot this week after bouncing back from a loss to Taft with good wins over top-25 ranked San Pedro and Birmingham to wrap up the regular season. the Chancellors will sit back and wait for the playoffs to begin after racking up 26 victories this season.
7 – Reseda Regents (13-3) Last Week: #7
The Regents maintain their spot on the list this week after wrapping up a succcessful reglar season campaign with a second-place finish in the Valley Mission. The Regents are a battle tested team that is motivated headed into the postseason after missing out on a second consecutive Valley Mission title essentially by a set. They will sit back and await the brackets to come out next week.
8 -Triumph Jaguars (22-7-5) Last Week: #9
The Jaguars have established themselves as a juggernaut in the North Valley league after a perfect regular season campaign on their way to their fourth straight league title. They will be some expectation to go far in the postseason, and they will get a couple of post seaon tune ups when they face a tough matchups agsint Panorama and Wish Academy to wrap up the regular season. .
9 – Panorama Pythons (23-7) Last Week: #8
The Pythons turnaround from a team that finished last in the Valley Mission to a team that piled up 26 wins this season is remarkable. This team is poised to make noise in the postseason afetr a third-place finish in the Valley Mission behind Kennedy and Reseda.
10 – El Camino Real Royals (11-14) Last Week: 10
The Royals hang on to the final spot on the rankings despite their record because it is hard to justify dropping this team out because of their strugles when the schedule they play is incredibly difficult. The Royals wont be a team you look forward to facing in the postseason.
