The CIFLACS football playoffs are in full swing, and the Valley has plenty of teams still in championship contention after a dominant showing across all divisions in the First Round. We have four all-valley matchups in with semifinal berths on the line, while the kings of the city open their title defense in the Open bracket against a team with serious aspirations off knocking the off the mountain top. Here is what you need to see from a jam-packed slate of playoff action tonight:

Division III Quarterfinal – #7 Van Nuys Wolves at #2 Taft Toreadors – Taft High School, 7 pm kickoff

Regardless of the outcome of this contest, it has been a successful season for the Van Nuys Wolves. Head Coach Ken Osorio has successfully laid a foundation that should have his orogram in position to compete at the top of the Valley Mission for the the next few seasons. But that’s next year. What is in front of them tonight is an opportunity to advance to heights this program have not seen befor, but in order to do that, they’ll have to topple the Tfat Toreadors. Taft has plenty of explosive talent on the offensive side of the ball, so expect this gae to have it’s fair share of fireworks. More importantly, the winner of this contest will definitely be the favorite to advance to the D-III title game on their side of the bracket.

Division III Quarterfinal – #6 Fulton Jaguars at #3 Chavez Eagles – CCLA, 7 pm kickoff

A rematch of a spirited contest from the regular season, the Fulton Jags return to CCLA looking to avenge their 20-0 loss in the regular season. Similar to Van Nuys, this game represents icing on the cake for what has been a remarkable season for the Fulton Prep, who made the jump back to 11-man football this seson. With a playoff victory under their belt already, it appears the Jags made the right choice in jining the East Valley. They can further cement a magical season with a win and a spot in the semifianls. For the Eagles, this game is an opportuntiy to show the grit and determination the program has built its identitiy on and advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2016.

Division II Quarterfinal – #6 Verdugo Hills Dons at # 3 Chatsworth Chancellors – Chatsworth HS, 7pm kickoff

It has been a resurgent season for the VErdugo Hills Dons and they can take another step closer to a championship if they can handle business on the road at Chatsworth. The Chancellors are flying high themselves, and dont seem to have missed a beat after long time Head Coach arvin TSreet stepped down in the fianl week of the season. This game has nail-biter written all over it.

Division I Quarterfinal – #5 Palisades Dolphins at #4 North Hollywood Huskies – North Hollywood HS, 7 pm kickoff

The North Hollywood Huskies have passed every test that has been put before them this season, remaining the only unbeaten team in the CIFLACS. This could be their stiffest challenf=de yet this season when they face off against a Palisades team with real title aspirations theselves. Can the Huskies pound the rock and control the tempo of the game without a helthy Jagger Belson? we’ will have to watch and see.

Division I Quarterfinal – #7 Westchester Comets at #2 Kennedy Cougars – Kennedy HS, 7 pm kickoff

If you like points, this might be the game for you this week. Two of the more exciting offenses in the city hook up in Granada Hills friday night when the Comets roll into town to face the Cougars. these teams have scored a lot of points this season and this game promises to be no deiiferent. The key to this game will be if Westchester’s defense can keep Kennedy from getting out to a hot start. Kennedy has torched opponents in the first half of games this season, averaging 28.6 points before the intermission.

Open Division Quarterfinal – #5 Gardena Panthers at Birmingham Patriots – Birmingham HS, 7 pm kickoff

The Patriots have been som cominant in recent years, the converation has shifted from whether this team is going to win the city to after they inevitably win the city,are they going to take state. This year, the GArdena Panthers will cone into town in the first round of the Open playoffs looking to end Birmingham’s reign of dominance. the PAnthers are as loaded talent wise as any team in the city section and will prove to be a formidable foe. Can Coach Rose take care of business and march toward another city championship? Or have the PAtriots finally met a team that can end their tyrannical hold of the section? Stay tuned and find out.
