Jocelyn Morinaga scores four goals in the win

The Burbank Bulldogs continued their strong start to the season and are now 2-0 following a dominant 6-2 win over the Sacred Heart of Jesus Comets behind the four-goal performance by Jocelyn Morinaga. Morinaga had three goals in the home opener against Arroyo, a 4-1 Bulldogs victory in the season opener on Thursday, November 21st. Sacred Heart suffered a rough 0-2 loss to Providence on Saturday night.

Morgiana tied the score at one in the eighth minute of play with a goal and added her second goal of the contest in the 16th minute of the match to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead. Morinaga recorded her hat trick goal in the 31st minute of play to give Burbank a 3-1 lead heading into the halftime break.

Katherine Aguilar scored a third-minute goal to begin the second half with hopes of Sacred Heart closing the gap, but Karine Gadyrian scored an insurance goal to put the Bulldogs back up by two. Sofie Leon had a chance to score in the eighth minute of the second half but the ball went over the goalkeeper and off the crossbar. Morinaga recorded her fourth goal of the contest to give the Bulldogs a 5-2 lead in the 16th minute.

The play of the night happened in the 36th minute of play when Natalia Cortez recorded a clutch save to stop Mya Del Cid’s penalty shot to keep the score at 5-2. Cortez ended up racking 10 saves in the game. Gracie Gisel scored the dagger, scoring another insurance goal in the 39th minute after missing two goal chances in the first half.

“They’re working hard. It was a big improvement from the last game and it showed today in the win over Sacred Heart of Jesus,” said Dennis Leon. Leon praised both Morgiana and Cortez for their performances in the win over the Comets and called Morinaga a hard worker. He also added that Cortez played with a lot of confidence and it translated on the field from the recent practices that they had.

Burbank will return to action after the Thanksgiving break to host De Toledo on Monday, December 2nd at 3:45 p.m. while Sacred Heart will play another road contest against Ramona Covent on Tuesday, November 26th at 3:30 p.m.
