Bears extend their losing streak to four games and continue their rough patch since their 2-0 start

Following a week of no games, the John Burroughs Bears were unable to snap their string of losses as they dropped their fourth game in a row to fall to a 2-4 record in the month of December. Burroughs came off a disappointing 52-64 loss to North Hollywood back on Saturday, December 7th while El Camino Real suffered a rough 89-55 loss to Notre Dame back on Saturday.

Both the Bears and Royals began the first quarter with a neck and neck battle of offense until El Camino Real went on an 11-2 scoring run captivated by points from Lucas Lee, Michael Khorramian, and Shawn Tunson. Owen Everhart scored two points for Burroughs in the opening quarter of play along with a buzzer beating teardrop shot by Elliot Lawrence to end the first quarter trailing 23-7.

The Royals and Bears traded points to start the second quarter with Amari Anderson recording a layup to start the scoring for El Camino Real and Evan Baker scoring a layup in response. It was all Royals throughout the second quarter and they led 41-14 over Burroughs at the halftime break.

Baker and Khorramian both traded shots to start the third quarter but the contest continued to be one sided with Burroughs having no comeback hopes in their sight. Everhart and Lawrence both helped with the scoring for the Bears along with Teegan Bradford but they still faced a deficit of 26 points to end the third quarter.

Everhart led Burroughs with 14 points in the loss and Shawn Tunson had 12 points in the win for El Camino Real. “We’re still growing and learning as a young unit. It’s been tough for us lately, but we’re not far off.” said Darryl Carter. Carter also added that all games are not cake walks when asked about losing to teams with a .500 or below record.

Burroughs falls to 4-7 while El Camino Real improves to 5-7 on the season. Both teams will return to action on Thursday, December 19th. The Bears will try to snap their four game losing streak when they begin the Faith Baptist Tournament against Agoura with tip off scheduled for 8:15 p.m. The Royals will host Hart at 3:45 p.m.

Quote of the week

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
