Day two of the Panorama High School New Year’s Classic was a busy one and there was plenty of basketball to watch from boys varsity, girls junior varsity to girls varsity. Throughout Thursday, Panorama hosted a slew of teames from across Los Angeles at its home court. 

Pool one for girls varsity features Panorama, Golden Valley High School, and University Pathways Medical Magnet Academy. 

Pool two features San Fernando, Chavez High School and Sun Valley Magnet School. 

The Lady Pythons rebounded with a win after losing its opening game to Golden Valley High School 72-29 in group 1. The Lady Pythons played University Pathways Medical Magnet Academy for day two of the tournament, winning 55-37. 

It was a back and forth affair between the two teams in the first quarter, following up each other’s shots. Panorama retook the lead after a three-pointer by captain Valery Quezada, and they never looked back, ending the first quarter on 7-0 run to lead 13-8. 

In the second quarter the Lady Pythons led by 10 points with three minutes remaining, but the Lady Phoenix clawed their way back into the game going on a 6-0 run to close out the quarter 23-19, down by four at halftime.

In the third, the Lady Pythons defense would improve where they would hold the Lady Phoenix to just two points in the quarter to lead 39-23. 

The teams essentially played evenly in the fourth quarter and Lady Pythons would go on to win the game 55-37. Three players scored in double figures, Yessenia Quezada led the team with 16 points, and Valery Quezada contributed 14 points along with Loriyah Lowe’s 12 points. Gianna Benitez of University Pathways would lead her team with 18 points. The Pythons will now take on San Fernando, the winners of Pool two at 7 p.m. Friday evening. 

San Fernando is coming off two victories, the first against Sun Valley Magnet School, 72-16. Four Lady Tigers scored in double digits in that win. The second game for San Fernando came against Chavez High School, and wasn’t the high scoring affair the Lady Tigers had in its first game. It was, however, a highly contested game between crosstown rivals. The Lady Tigers would go on to win 52-29, led by Delilah Caudillo, who finished with 13 points.

Game one on Friday for girls varsity will feature University Pathways Medical Magnet Academy against Sun Valley Magnet School at 4 p.m.

Game two features Golden Valley versus Chavez at 5:30 p.m.

Game three is Panorama versus San Fernando at 7 p.m.

The winners of game two and three will go on to play for the championship on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Game one on Friday for boys varsity will feature Sun Valley Magnet School against Vaughn Next Century Learning Center at 11:30 a.m.

Game two features East Valley High School versus San Fernando at 1 p.m.

Game three is Panorama versus Lincoln High school at 2:30 p.m.

The winners of game two and three will go on to play for the championship on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
