Daniel Sohn records the match-ending kill in the win for the Falcons

The Crescenta Valley Falcons have swept the regular season series with the Burbank after coming away with a second straight four-set victory over the Bulldogs (19-25, 25-18, 25-11, 25-21). Daniel Sohn recorded the match-ending kill in the fourth set. Last Friday, Burbank lost to crosstown rival Burroughs in four sets, while CV came off a four-set victory over Claremont.

Jordan Ribas and Brandon Chong got the offense going by recording back-to-back kills to get Burbank out in front early in the opening set. Both the Falcons and Bulldogs were neck and neck offensively in the first half of the first set, but the Bulldogs ended up being in cruise control throughout the entire opening frame. Colin Walley committed a net serve error, which resulted in game point for Burbank’s win over CV in set one.

Caiden Kai Abaradar committed a net serve error to start the second set, which resulted in the Falcons getting awarded the point. Both the Bulldogs and Falcons continued to battle it out in the first half of set two until CV pulled away to seal the 25-18 win in the second set behind the game-sealing ace by Daniel Sohn.

In set three, both teams started off the set by trading off points. Burbank and Crescenta Valley both traded points early on until the Falcons got comfortable to walk away with a 25-11 win in the fourth set on a set-ending ace by Tyler Hong.

The Bulldogs were looking to force a dramatic fifth set, and the Falcons were looking to finish off Burbank in four sets, entering the fourth set, but Aidan Casey, Tyler Tran, and Brandon Chong all had kills to begin this ultimately decisive set. Burbank found themselves down 17-12 in set four, but put together a late rally to get them back within three on a clutch kill by Jordan Ribas. Daniel Sohn won the game for the Falcons with a match-winning kill to give Crescenta Valley the season sweep over Burbank.

Burbank drops to 3-7 overall and 0-5 in Pacific League play and Crescenta Valley improves to 13-8 overall and 4-1 in Pacific League play. Both Burbank and CV will return to action on Friday, April 4th as Burbank will go on the road to play Pasadena and Crescenta Valley will take on Glendale with both contests starting at 5:15 p.m.

Quote of the week

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
