Elco climbs the list after a shutout win on the road last week.

The VST power rankings have arrived with some notable movers from last week. We are down to two unbeaten teams from the Valley on the list, while a West Valley team ascends to their highest position before a big showdown at home this week. Here are the top ten teams in the Valley this week on the VST Power List:

  1. Birmingham Patriots (1-2) Last Week: #1
The Pats stay atop the list coming off their bye week. They will face a tough opponent at home when Calabasas visits this week.
  2. Kennedy Cougars (3-1) Last Week: #2
The Cougars hung tough and won their annual rivalry game versus Granada Hills this past Friday night. Kennedy will officially begin their defense of the Valley Mission League against Van Nuys this week.
  3. Taft Toreadors (4-0) Last Week: #5
The Toreadors have ascended to their highest position ever in the VST power rankings on the strength of a high-powered offensive attack that has put 42 points or more on their opponents the last three weeks. Eagle Rock comes to visit in a city section showdown this week.
  4. Granada Hills Highlanders (1-3) Last Week: #3
The Highlanders gave Kennedy all they could handle in their defeat last week. Do not let the record fool you; big things are on the horizon for the Highlanders.
  5. Van Nuys Wolves (4-0) Last Week: #7
The Wolves continue to stay unblemished in their stellar start to 2025. They have a huge challenge awaiting them in the reigning Valley Mission champions this week.
  6. El Camino Real Royals (2-2) Last Week: #8
The Royals are a team on the rise after a shutout win on the road against a previously unbeaten Panorama team last week. We will see if that defense can keep rolling when they host a tough Palisades team this week.
  7. San Fernando Tigers (3-1) Last Week: #6
The Tigers suffered their first loss of the year at Alemany last week. Expect a huge bounce back versus a rebuilding Reseda team this week at home.
  8. Panorama Pythons (3-1) Last Week: #4
The Pythons’ offense just found the right gear last week versus Elco. Expect this team to regroup at home versus Canoga Park this week.
  9. Cleveland Cavaliers (1-3) Last Week: #9
It has been a tough start to the season for the Cavaliers, but this team has played as tough a schedule as any team in the Valley. The Cavs get to rest and regroup on their bye this week.
  10. Monroe Vikings (2-1) Last Week: #10
The Vikings hold steady in the final spot on the list. Monroe will be fresh off their bye when the squad returns to action in a big game on the road at North Hollywood to begin East Valley League play today.

Quote of the week

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
