The Bears win the season series with the Bulldogs













The John Burroughs Bears easily sweep the Pasadena Bulldogs in three sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-6) behind the game-winning kill by Trinity Taylan. Burroughs also took the first meeting over Pasadena in three sets back on Thursday, August 28th. Both teams entered the contest by coming out with sweeping victories against their crosstown rivals. Pasadena came off a 3-0 win over Muir last Wednesday, with Burroughs coming off a sweeping victory over Burbank last Thursday.




Sienna Lay began the opening set by giving the Bears a 2-0 lead with back-to-back aces. Zoe Davis’s failed kill attempt went off the net and put the Bulldogs on the board to make it a 2-1 game. Hana Abu Rayyan recorded three straight aces, which helped Pasadena get off to a 5-2 scoring run. It was a neck-and-neck contest for the first part of the opening set until the Bears eventually took control for the rest of the first set and came away with a seven-point victory over the Bulldogs.



Isla Crawford started the second set by recording three straight aces to give Pasadena a 3-0 lead. Alex Hammeke got the Bears on the board to make it a 3-1 game. Khloe Pavia recorded three straight kills to make the score 8-6, and Sienna Lay recorded back-to-back points to increase the Bears’ lead to four. Pavia later sandwiched two kills around a service error to win the set for the Bears, 25-18.



Trinity Taylan began the third set with consecutive aces to give Burroughs a 2-0 lead. Kylee Berveridge recorded six aces in a set where the Bears didn’t appear to be challenged, en route to their eventual sweep of the Bulldogs. Taylan then ended the game with a kill to give the Bears a 25-6 win over the Bulldogs.










Burroughs improves to 13-2 overall and 7-1 in Pacific League play, with Pasadena dropping to 12-11 overall and 4-4 in Pacific League play. Burroughs will return to action on Friday, September 26th, with a marquee matchup against Arcadia, with the opening serve scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Pasadena will be taking on San Marino in the second of the back-to-back at 5:15 p.m.
