Falcons 6-0 scoring run in the first quarter propelled them to a convincing victory over the Bears 

The John Burroughs Bears boys water polo team hasn’t had it easy of late, as their 17-5 defeat to the Crescenta Valley Falcons extended their losing streak to eight games. Heading into the contest, Burroughs came off a 12-9 loss to the Glendale Nitros back on Thursday, September 25th with Crescenta Valley coming off a 12-6 loss to Santa Monica at the South Bay Tournament over the weekend. 

The Falcons began the opening quarter by going on a 6-0 scoring run with goals by Alex Hovhanisyan, Brayden Shaban, Daron Alexanians, and Sameul Hedin Abreu to jumpstart the offense. Landon Qiambao finally got the Bears on the board with a goal with Burroughs trailing 6-1 at the end of the first quarter. 

Hedin and Dion Alexanians both scored back-to-back goals to start the second quarter to increase the lead to seven. Nicolas Oporta responded with a score of his own with the Falcons still up 8-2. Hovhanisyan then recorded his fourth goal of the contest to make it a 9-2 advantage for CV. Kelly Roan, Joseph Keran, and Oporta traded goals for their respective teams before the halftime break, with the Falcons holding a 10-4 lead over the Bears. 

Matthew Rodrigiuez began the third quarter by recording the first goal of the second half to make it a five point game in hopes of jumpstarting the offense. Brayden Shabani, Edgar Galstyan, Hovhanisyan, Daron Alexanians ended the Bears comeback hopes with six straight goals. The Falcons entered the final quarter with a 16-5 lead. While the fourth quarter was uneventful for the most part, Alex Hovhanisyan scored a goal to put the icing on the cake for CV.

Burroughs falls to 3-10 overall and 0-4 in Pacific League play with Crescenta Valley improving to 13-4 overall and 4-0 in Pacific League play. Both teams will return to action on Thursday with Burroughs taking on Muir at 3:45 p.m. and CV taking on Burbank at Glendale High School at 6:45 p.m.
