This week’s edition of the VST power rankings for girls volleyball features familiar teams from last week, with a West Valley school making the biggest jump after a strong run of play. A new entrant hits the list from the Valley Mission with a big opportunity this week to cement their chance to grab a piece of the league title. Here are the top ten teams heading into play this week:
- Grant Lancers (19-4)
The Lancers are the top team in the East Valley and a strong contender for a city championship. Grant extended their win streak to five with wins over Poly and Sun Valley Magnet last week. - Taft Toreadors (24-11)
The Toreadors bounced back from a rough patch in their schedule with a tough five-set victory over El Co and a 3-0 victory over Cleveland. - Granada Hills Highlanders (18-13)
The Highlanders remain one of the hotter teams in the city after a 3-2 win over Chatsworth last week. GHC has huge matchups with Cleveland and El Camino Real this week. - El Camino Real Royals (18-12)
The Royals lost a tight match versus Taft last week, but bounced back by breezing past Birmingham in straight sets. Chatsworth and Granada Hills are on the slate this week. - Cleveland Cavaliers (17-14)
The Cavaliers remain one of the top teams in the city. They went 1-1 last week in West Valley play, and they have two huge matches against Chatsworth and Granada Hills scheduled for this week. - Chatsworth Chancellors (18-11)
The Chancellors have a huge week ahead of them with matches versus Elco and Taft before participating in the Arbor View Tournament. - Arleta Mustangs (11-1)
The Mustangs went 2-0 last week to maintain pace with Grant at the top of the East Valley League standings. - Kennedy Cougars (20-7)
The Cougars went 2-0 last week to reach the 20-win plateau for the second consecutive season. Kennedy can take a major step towards winning the Valley Mission with wins over Panorama and Sylmar this week. - Triumph Jaguars (19-3)
The Jaguars remain the class of the Valley 3 schools. A win over Community Charter would give the Jags their fifth straight 20-win campaign. - Sylmar Spartans (15-11)
The Spartans take the last spot on the rankings after a 2-0 week. The Spartans could really make a late-season statement with important matchups with Van Nuys, Kennedy, and the Pool Play portion of the Sylmar Invitational getting underway this week.
