Seven Elkin’s game tying goal in the 30th minute in the second half propelled the draw with the Nitros


The Burroughs Bears and Glendale Nitros gained a point in the Pacific League standings following a 2-2 draw on Friday afternoon. Seven Elkin came through in the clutch with a game tying goal in the 30th minute of play in the second half. Back on Wednesday, Burroughs escaped with a 2-1 win over Arcadia and Glendale drew 2-2 with Pasadena.


Both teams came out aggressive to start the opening half, but the Bears and Nitros each went offsides in the 6th and 8th minutes of play. Elkin missed an opportunity to score the game’s first goal in the 9th minute of action and Erik Chatoyan had two opportunities for Glendale coming in the 12th and 17th minutes of play. Justin Trigo and Alan Gomez also were unable to convert opportunities for the Bears.


In the early going, each team had three missed opportunities until Hamza Saeeed finally broke through with the game’s first goal for Glendale. The Nitros entered halftime with a 1-0 lead over the Bears.


Following halftime, Trigo tied the score at one with a goal in the second minute of play. Erik Chatoyan scored a 10th minute goal to retake the lead for the Nitros over the Bears. Burroughs was unable to convert on three opportunities to tie the game as Ian Major, Elkin and Jordan Seas had their chances in the 11th, 20th, and 24th minutes go wanting. Elkin finally came through in the clutch in the 30th minute to tie the game at two. Both teams ended the second half with a defensive display to complete the 2-2 tie.


The Burroughs Bears now stand at 5-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in Pacific League play and Glendale’s record is now at 5-3-2 overall and 2-1-2 in league play. Both teams will return to action on Tuesday, January 13th. Glendale will take on Burbank at Kemp Kallem Field and Burroughs will host Muir at Memorial Field. Both games will take place at 3:45 p.m.
