Pasadena escapes with a 1-0 victory over Burroughs

Tobias Gonzalez’s ninth minute goal in the first half propelled the Bulldogs to a narrow victory over the Bears

The Pasadena Bulldogs squeezed by the Burroughs Bears with a 1-0 win behind Tobais Gonzalez’s ninth minute goal in the first half. Burroughs entered the contest by coming off a 3-2 loss to crosstown rival Burbank and Pasadena came off a 0-0 draw with their crosstown rival Muir.

Joseph Kaufman had three saves in net while allowing one goal for the Bears, while his counterpart,  Alan Rubio, recorded three saves in net, allowing no goals.

The Bears began the first half with a missed goal chance. Justin Trigo had two opportunities at goal, the first coming in the fifth minute. Trigo was also unable to convert his chance in the 40th minute. Tobias Gonzalez opened the scoring with his game-winning strike in the ninth minute, the only score of the contest for either side.

Eddie Holguin missed his opportunities to put the Bulldogs up 2-0, missing his scoring chances in the 17th and 35th minutes of play. In-between those, during the 20th minute of play, Seven Elkin missed an opportunity to tie the match at one apiece for the Bears. Pasadena entered the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.

Immediately following the halftime break, Julian Conner had the only real chance at goal for either team. Conner was unable to convert his shot for the Bulldogs in the second minute of play. Both teams played a defensive battle in the second half leading to the 1-0 final.

Burroughs drops to 5-8-2 overall and 1-6-1 in Pacific League play and Pasadena improves to 6-7-3 overall and 4-2-2 in league play. The Bulldogs remain in third place and Burroughs remains in seventh place in league following action.

Both teams will play their next scheduled contests on Tuesday, January 20th with Burroughs taking on Crescenta Valley and Pasadena facing Burbank in the battle of the Bulldogs soccer contest. Both games are scheduled to take place at 3:45 p.m.
