Sophia Martinez scores five goals in the win for the Bulldogs 

The Burbank Bulldogs got a big win in the best possible way by blasting the Hoover Tornados 14-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Sophia Martinez’s five goal performance led the way for Burbank. With this win the Bulldogs keep their CIF Southern Section playoff hopes alive. 

Last Friday, Burbank came off a 3-0 loss to Muir and Hoover lost to Burroughs 8-0. Karine Gadyan was not asked to record a save throughout the contest in the shutout for the Bulldogs. Nicole Hatamian allowed 14 goals in net while recording 11 saves in net for the Tornados. 

Emily Taghon started play with a bang with a goal chance in the first minute and followed that up with the game’s first goal just one minute later. Sophia Leon then scored a fifth minute goal to put Burbank up 2-0. 

Sophia Martinez continued the offensive momentum for the Bulldogs when she scored an 11th minute goal to put them up by three. Jocelyn Morinaga and Hailey Kim kept it going with their goals in the 22nd and 29th minutes respectively. Hoover never had real chances of getting on the board throughout the contest and the Bulldogs led 5-0 at the halftime break.

Taghon began the second half with her second goal of the game to put the Bulldogs up by six. Burbank was not done scoring and Sophia Martinez led the scoring parade with four goals in the second half. Jocelyn Morinaga added three goals in the half as well and Leon scored her second goal of the game for a nine-goal explosion in the half to help the Bulldogs complete the 14-goal win over the Tornados. 

Burbank improves to 10-7-1 overall and 5-6-0 in Pacific League play with Hoover dropping  to 3-14-0 overall and 0-11-0 in Pacific League play. Both teams are back in action on Thursday, January 29. Hoover will travel to Pasadena to take on the Bulldogs with kick off slated for 3:45 p.m. and Burbank will travel to Crescenta Valley to take on the Falcons at CV with game time scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
